Atalaya and the approaching Atlantic storm

For the upcoming Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival in Murrells Inlet, SC, AccuWeather is predicting over 4” total rain on Thursday (setup day) and Friday (setup / opening day), with showers lasting 17 hours on Thursday (with winds of 20-32 mph) and 20 hours on Friday due to an Atlantic storm coming onshore around Myrtle Beach that was thought to have “tropical characteristics” a few days ago.

Fortunately, we will not be participating this year.  I was wondering what/how other participants are doing as the storm progresses:

  • Anyone canceling?
  • Reports from the front line?
  • Any flooding of the castle?

  • We should have been in Kill Devil Hills this week, last Saturday cancelled our flight due to coastal flooding and 60mph winds. Definitely no regrets with the current hurricane. Go figure but better safe than sorry. Can reuse our tickets on southwest another time with no penalty.
  • Well, now I am in the same situation with Hurricane Joachim coming and I have a show-set up tomorrow- outside DC area.

Three day show, plus one day setup and the least would be heavy rain and chilly during most of it.

So- do we cancel or go? Isn't life funny? (trying to laugh)

  • I was wondering how things went, too.

  • To those who participated in Atalaya:  How did it go?  Did you dodge a bullet?

I saw that further south there was a tornado associated with the storm that knocked down a few brick homes, and Columbia has a flash flood requiring rescues.  Was Atalaya affected?
