How do you sign your works of art

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 12:36pm 3 Comments

I was wondering how you all sign your works of art.   I have an electric engraving tool that i scratch my name onto the piece of steel that my work is on.   My signature is faint that is the problem.  I am thinking of getting a stamp and put my name in that way.   Has anyone done this and if so would like to know the results.   The other thought is weld a small metal plaque on each piece .   I have seen it once.  Has anyone done a lasar label.   I am just curious to know what people do these…

Read your contract before changing Credit Card Companies

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 6:57pm 20 Comments

READ THE FINE PRINT:    I made the mistake of not reading the fine print and this past week tried to cancel with my present credit card company.   I found out that when the three years expires it automatically gives you another  3 years unless you write 90 days in advance to cancel.   So now i am stuck till april 2013.  I did not read the fine print.  If I want out it will cost me $314.00.    The one good thing to come out of this is that i was told that my rates are going to come down.   (I…

need an opinion

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 10:50pm 17 Comments

i need opinion from anyone.   i am in process of designing a sculpture for someone in tx.  they originally want 100 pieces now supposedly they are down to 20.  I have been redesigning this piece now for over 3 weeks.  They did not like this, i changed it,   they did not like that,  i changed that.   Finally sent them a picture of a final design. Now all of a sudden they want my prototype, sent to them ups for final approval.   So i went from 100, to 20 to 1

I am not in the market of…

looking for a show in san diego at the end of april

Posted on October 11, 2011 at 1:54pm 7 Comments

I was wondering if anyone has done an arts and crafts show in San Diego  in Little Italy.  This show is in April and is not fine arts   The Artwalk seems to be gears for mostly fine arts.   If anyone has any info i would really appreciate it.   I seem to have found a new market in the San Diego area

Prescott, Az Art Show

Posted on August 16, 2011 at 3:00am 10 Comments

Here is a review from the Southwest part of the country.   I have taken time to reflect on this show which was the Prescott Arts and Crafts Festival put on by Mt. Artist Guild.   First of all they treated the artist fine.   Bringing by water and snacks both Sat. and Sun.   If you were alone they did come around and sit in your booth while the artist went to the bathroom   (portopotties).    Setup and teardown were easy.   Prescott usually gets rain on this particular weekend.  Well the rain…

Thanks Steve,  BTW, if you are interested in FolkLife, let me know.  I have the website and the promoter's email.  FolkLife was way off this year for most of us ( think I posted a blog on it), but usually is a good show for us, much better than Bumbershoot could ever be based on what I've heard about Bumbershoot.  Let me know if there are any other shows up here you are considering, if I haven't done them, I bet I know artists who have.

Hi Steve,

Shows we are considering for May / June 2012 in Northern CA:

El Dorado Art & Wine Affair
Berryessa Art & Wine Festival
Los Altos Art Festival
Art on the Main
Mountain A La Carte & Art

Affaire in the Gardens

Patterson Apricot Fiesta
Walnut Creek Art & Wine Festival
Novto Festival of Art, Wine and Music
Hermosa Beach Art Walk
Live Oak Park Fair
Danville Fine Arts Fair
Marin Arts Festival

Any you think we should avoid at all costs or any you recommend?

BTW, we don't do Bumbershoot and we live here, in fact I don't know any artists who do that show. Folklife (Memorial Day) is much better, Bumbershoot is way too much buy/sell.  Be glad to share any info on other shows in this region that you are interested in.

Hi Steve, Was hoping maybe you could share some experience regarding shows on the West Coast, you seem to be one of the few really active artists in this region, especially California where we are considering a few shows for 2012 (our first shows outside of the Pacific NW).

Thanks Steve, I was wondering about San Diego. I think I'm going to limit my participation to shows within daily driving distance. I haven't heard any success stories for any of the art fairs this year. Seems to me that the consensus is that qualified buyers just aren't buying. People with spare cash are just shoving it in the mattress I guess.
