I'm renting a tent from the show and am hoping I can rent some walls from one of you!I need to rent/borrow pro-panels -- 9 full panels, give or take. Any color is fine, and other walls are fine. I'm allergic to everything that grows here -- from grass to trees to flowers, etc.Every outdoor venture [including walking to the mailbox] ends with me coughing, and in many cases major asthma attacks... to the point of a visit to the ER. I try taking meds, but they don't help. Short of moving to Antarctica... I'm doomed.I thought it over, and it pains…See More

Who needs a mentor - LEATHER?

This might sound strange, but my Dad is retired, having worked in the Leather industry all of his life -- from working as an apprentice in a saddle shop in Europe to owning his own import company. He has an amazing range of skills; from sourcing leather to design, pattern making, sample making and so much more. And...he's doing nothing these days.He would love to help artisans; teaching or working alongside; he's in Southern California. If you, or someone you might know is interesting in…See More

What are the best things about art fairs
more eyeballs seeing my work... potential for sales.
Best show ever and why
Scottsdale Arts Festival -a juried festival with remarkable artists - and art-smart attendees. Beautiful grounds, admission is charged to the show - people expect to spend money on art and that is why are they are there.

Seems like shows that include wine tasting or are near popular bars have "looser" customers.
Worst show ever and why
Looking back, many seem worse because of weather conditions, bad publicity, the economy.
The shows I don't like are the ones where you have no room for storage, no consideration for hills, don't stagger move-in times or put fine artists next to the kettle corn booth.
Who referred you to ArtFairInsiders.com? Please be specific.

Hey kids,

The last show I did was an inaugural show. Duh. Kick myself. I stood in freezing weather, and rain - in a location that was frequented by no one, sold not a thing... like most of the people around me. Booth fee, hotel, meals, gas...had to be $1K for zip.

I could bitch and moan about this business, but I signed up for it.

I have always wanted to control my career, and as we all know, we can't count on festivals to make a living...although many of you do, and I…

A cereal box inspired me to change my attitude...

Posted on September 15, 2014 at 10:31am 9 Comments

Nature's Path cereals are great... several weeks ago, I picked up a box to pour a bowl and read their slogan on the back..."We're so happy our paths have crossed."

For some reason, it made me think of my attitude about art festivals, and how frustrated I have been - and how obnoxious my silent stream of conciousness had become. I cut back on shows completely.

I know I probably picked a lot of bad shows during the last few years, didn't do the research, etc... But that slogan…

I watched a documentary on an artist whose work sells for $65,000 - over $250,000 each.

I have seen his work before and it is interesting and really cool... I've always been so impressed with his skill, and the amazing amount of detail.

His work sells to collectors and museums.

I was really digging it until I saw the part where he is in China painting. They showed his a crew of like 10 Chinese painters doing all the backgrounds and the clothes.Wait,…

A Really Great Post-Script

Posted on July 12, 2014 at 4:04pm 3 Comments

A few weeks ago I whined about a show that was not so great for me. During the show, a woman stopped in and looked at one of my pieces - this horse. I have two reproductions - they are mirror images. They can be bought as singles or the duo.

This nice woman said..."these are really great, I am on the board of…

Hi Sandhi,

I was serious about a consignment. If you accept my friendship, I guess that is the only way we can text privately. I'm going out to your website now.

I did this a few years back in Jupiter florida. I kept it up for several years. Downside: RETAIL! Hours are horrendous, hard to find artists. I never did get a good mix nor enough artists. I broke even after 3 years. Rent was too high and not enough foot traffic. NEED FOOT TRAFFIC!!!! Do not be a destination. just my $.02
