Red Warning Flags

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 1:48pm 4 Comments

In considering whether or not to apply to an art fair, every seasoned exhibitor will tell you to check out the details.  Look for the red flags of warning.  Interestingly, this one came to my inbox this morning, and they helpfully even already had it in red text.  How convenient.

But Of Course, We Just Don't Have Enough Art Fairs

Posted on December 7, 2011 at 12:30am 34 Comments

Good grief.  Look what just hit our inboxes.

Plus Two NEW Festivals in Milwaukee, WI and New Buffalo, MI

Wouldn't you expect that a national level art fair director would know by now that there are too many art fairs?  That patrons are really becoming ambivalent about whether they attend or not, because it'll be  crazy easy to find one to go to next weekend instead?

How many artists have lamented the…

Check The Coffee Pot

Posted on October 9, 2011 at 3:17pm 7 Comments

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Jefferson, Iowa.

We've been through a bad phase lately.  Please allow me to share; and honestly, it's not THAT bad.

The scene:  Husband and I in the car, driving somewhere, and one of us would look at the other of us and ask "did you check the coffee pot?"  As in:  did it get turned off, or left on?

Somehow we have adopted the assumption that an empty coffee pot left turned on when nobody…

The Summer Art Fair. What's The Mission There?

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 12:44pm 11 Comments

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio.  Yup, still on the topic of that summer art fair.  Who'da thunk it was so complicated, eh?

The summer art fair.  And no, we don't have to limit ourselves, it could be a fall event--we'd even allow winter if you move it indoors.  Think art festival, then it becomes season-less or generically seasoned.  However/whatever.

Today we need to talk about one of the major problems with the art festival venue.  In a…

The Summer Art Fair. Would I Be An Artist There?

Posted on September 16, 2011 at 12:09pm 5 Comments

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, where we've predetermined to talk again about the summer art fair.

Aaaah, sunny days, the green grass of the park scattered with cute little white tents, happy artists selling their fine art....

Oh wait.  How much of that line is fiction?  Imaginary?  Delusional? A sham?

I've spent quite a bit of research time lately on the topic of the "fine art fair".  Some of them have a heck of a…

Well, we've left our winter behind (I hope)...SW Missouri is notorious for 'I-44 corridor changes' and I'm right on it!  Oh, and I know Jefferson...I was born and raised in Boone (Co.).  So, do you still have the Red Barn festival?  I do both painting (fine art) and painting (fun art illustrated barnwood signs) as well as sculpture in polymer clay. I always wanted to get back 'home' but the timing has been wrong for shows I really wanted to do and now the state of the gas prices is giving me pause for thought.  My brother lives in Eldora and my sister in Dubuque so I have reason to make an extended trip. Do you do many Iowa shows?

Hi Karen,

Thanks for joining this new site. Were you at Krasl this year or last? I was there and would love to meet you. Maybe next year.

In the meantime, please invite some friends to join. We can turn this into an artists destination, "the more, the merrier."
