Sandra Rathbun replied to jodie gillotte's discussion Jury or not in the group Jewelry Genies
"I agree that juried shows are the way to go. But not all juried shows are equal. Some of the small shows let in alot of imports and other not so great things. At a better show I can do 2 to 3 times what I can do at a small show."

Kathleen Krucoff replied to jodie gillotte's discussion Jury or not in the group Jewelry Genies
"Just to chime in and confirm what others have said, I think juried shows are the only way to go. I learned from the school of hard knocks doing a couple un-juried shows....won't make that mistake again."

JoAnn Wedge replied to jodie gillotte's discussion Jury or not in the group Jewelry Genies
"Welcome to the "rat" race. I have been doing shows for 35 years and have only done juried shows most of that time. That term has a few different meanings, mostly to see what you do. High dollar, high traffic juried shows generally want…"

Robin Chard replied to jodie gillotte's discussion Jury or not in the group Jewelry Genies
"If you don't apply to juried shows, you will be competing with mass made stuff from China. It is very hard to sell your stuff under these conditions. Some small juried shows are not hard to get into. They just want to see that you make your own…"

S. Michelle Babcock replied to jodie gillotte's discussion Jury or not in the group Jewelry Genies
"It really depends on your product. If it's something that requires alot of design and time to produce do only juried. If it's something that's quick and cheap unjuried. If it's fine craft jury, easy craft non- juried."

Art on the Lawn: Barbara Berney replied to jodie gillotte's discussion Jury or not in the group Jewelry Genies
"Juried fairs, only, if you're serious about your work. Amy is right: an honest show director uses a jury to filter out the junk or less appropriate work for a venue, limits the number of artists in a particular category, etc. The one and only…"

Amy Palmer replied to jodie gillotte's discussion Jury or not in the group Jewelry Genies
"I have been doing art fair for a few years, I had to learn the hard way, only do juried shows. otherwise you end up at show selling a lot of crafty junk and they may be flooded with jewelry or too many of the same thing. They let anyone in that…"

Lila replied to jodie gillotte's discussion Tents in the group Jewelry Genies
"Hi Jodie, Some shows require a white tent, so you may as well get a white one. I bought my tent 3 years ago from Sam's Club for $200. It is an EZup that comes with an carrying case and sides. It is waterproof. This is definitely a cheaper…"

Robin Chard replied to jodie gillotte's discussion Tents in the group Jewelry Genies
"I too bought my first tent at Cosco and paid around 200 for it and it came with a one year warrenty. The EZ up people are very nice. But I found out that they dump lemons and over-runs on Cosco and Wally World. Every time the wind blew the joint…"

"Thanks Amy, Do you find this tent to be waterproof as well? "

Amy Palmer replied to jodie gillotte's discussion Tents in the group Jewelry Genies
"Most tents are white, so it is probably best to stick with that. The most common one out there is EZ up however I have heard the quality has declined. I bought my tent at Costco - I have forgotten the name brand but it is easy to use and costs about…"
