My studio sales aren't at my studio. I am a regular guest artist at a studio tour that tales place every September. There are five artist studios near one another in a beautiful area near a river. The lots are large and each artist has about three g…

Sheila, Glad you brought up the keeping prices consistent across all marketing venues. Something I’ve been struggling to maintain in this slow economy. Does anyone else have galleries that offer up to 20% off the retail (mostly to interior designers…

My pricing method is very similar to yours. By size, with a sliding scale down per inch as the pieces get larger. This makes sense because a lot of what goes into making the work does not change according to size ( time spent planning, etc.) It's s…

I’m stepping back into the Art Fair realm after years away and am fortunate to have the confidence of an international art agent as well as fine art galleries who set or advise me on prices. The downside is that moving my price upwards is difficult……

Should Picasso automatically get in just because he is Picasso? In his lifetime Picasso created over 22,000 individual pieces of art (multiples were only counted once). A lot of stuff he made in his later years just wasn't very good. There are a num…

As I have mentioned previously, part of the jury process that is lacking is the idea that diversity is more important than quality to show organizers - they want "something for everyone." If an art fair is really about "Art" then lets get rid of the…

Okay, here is some more fuel for the rejection fire. Once again I was rejected by the Prairie Village show here in Kansas City. I received the standard rejection form letter - many qualified applicants, strong field, limited number of openings, 450…

Personally I have seen your so called, whatever you call them.
If you could hold the camera without shaking, or purchase a tripod, then maybe you could call yourself a photographer with out crutches. Too bad......no one knows good photography any more.

I use both film and digital, I may only be a beginning photographer and not a professional but I have some good work. I don't use wet plates and such but still I am a photographer. Oh, I don't use Photoshop either. It takes more than wet plates and darkrooms to capture the essence of an object. I usually stay out these type of discussions but I needed to comment.

I too have enjoyed our little discourse, and passionate disagreement - I'm sure some of the readers have as well. If I make the Westport show next year, with or without filters, I'll be sure to look you up.

Bill, To set the record straight, I'm not a promoter of Art Westport, I am chairman and one of the originators of the show, along with Bob Holloway and Bob Meldrexler. We were also part of the original committee that started the Brookside art annual. I find it interesting that you honor the Plaza as the preeminent art show in Kansas City. Since in 1977 that show all but turned its back on area artists, sparking the birth of Art Westport. The only showcase for local artists. Moreover, Art Westport is not the anti Plaza show that you prevaricate about. You really shouldn't try to make comments about things that you have no knowledge about. If you were as active as you say you have been for the last 30 years, I'm sure we would have crossed paths before now. I have been more than active in the Kansas City art scene since 1973. I, unlike you, have been accepted in all the shows that meet your approval and didn't need to use the same Photoshop filter that every other digital artist seems to have discovered. I also didn't whine when I wasn't accepted to any show. I read your commentary about whining on the Zapplication discussion page and you are at the pinnacle of knowledge about whining.

Let's face it Bill, the closest you actually came to being in Art Westport was the wait list. That means you wait to be accepted. Boasting about your abilities or how deep your pockets are, aren't going to change those facts. The truth is if you would have accepted being on the wait list, you would have been in the show and then actually had grounds to make legitimate comments about Art Westport. I'm sure some artist that is now in the show, because of your temper tantrum, would thank you.

Well Bill, to answer your question, I only exhibit in Art Westport. So the last day of the show is a time of rest for a few months for me. That is the only outside show that I have done in the last 30 years. I exhibit in galleries in New Mexico otherwise. But to your point of "Worst Show" I have to ask again....wouldn't you have to be accepted, which you weren't, and actually be a exhibitor to say Art Westport was your worst? I answered your question about my reason for answering as I did, now it's your turn. So, what say you?
