Whitney Peckman commented on Connie Mettler's blog post Trouble and Joy at the Old Town Art Fair
"Pat, I agree with you. I have never had a sale as a result of someone going to my website first, but it is great reinforcement and I've definitely had sales as a result of someone seeing my work at a show, going home to check me out via my…"

Whitney Peckman commented on Whitney Peckman's blog post Summerfair - Cincinnati, OH
"Yep, I absolutely agree. Lots of the low-end things were very well done. But, I think when the show is overloaded with low price goods, it sends a message to those artists who are doing work that needs to be priced high, such as furniture makers,…"

Bradley R Cross commented on Whitney Peckman's blog post Summerfair - Cincinnati, OH
"I did Summerfair, and had a very good show, I see it more a matter of price points rather than quality. I also perceive the heat altered the buying side of the brain, and held the $ back. My price points were 15-100. Bradley Cross"

Whitney Peckman commented on Whitney Peckman's blog post Summerfair - Cincinnati, OH
"That's a good question then. Is it worth it to have the quality of the show suffer for filling it with low end crafts? If the intention, and or the mandate of the board, if there is one, is to have a high quality show, then make those choices…"

Connie Mettler commented on Whitney Peckman's blog post Summerfair
"This year Summerfair went head to head with the Columbus Arts Festival (both Ohio shows), which certainly made artists have to make a choice. Summerfair has 300 artists, I believe. It is tough to put together a high quality event and at the same…"

Summerfair - Cincinnati, OH

My husband and I did Summerfair last weekend, different mediums, booths etc. He had a decent show and I had a zero show. Since we are veterans (tho this was a first year at Summerfair, and probably the last), I won't whine, but when you see so much stuff on a stick going out, and virtually nothing else, it's not a happy sight. It was horribly hot and humid Fri and Sat, lovely on Sun and I think sales were good for low end things on Sun. It is a large, and quite confusing, layout, with lots of…See More

Whitney Peckman commented on Heather Jordan's blog post Copy KATS. Artist beware!
"I first heard about this "trend" from a friend in Birmingham, AL who had taken many of these "wine & paint" classes. I think the best way to stop it is for your story to go viral on the IT so let's all get it out there…"

Whitney Peckman replied to deb upright's discussion Sale Techniques
"I think the best sales techniques is also the best life technique - BE PRESENT! Be present in the moment - when you are creating work (that would be the easy being present), but most importantly, when you are in your booth (and you must be IN your…"

First show ever
Anacortes, WA - back in the day, 1989 or so, when I was doing paper collage and living in the San Juan Islands.
What are the best things about art fairs
Meeting people face to face who love my work and meeting other artists who also do this for a living instead of a hobby.
Best show ever and why
Port Clinton - Sold more in one weekend than I ever thought was possible for me, great weather, great city.
Worst show ever and why
Isn't the worst show whatever the last one was that you didn't make any money at? All things are tolerable if you go away with the mortgage payment.
Who referred you to ArtFairInsiders.com? Please be specific.
Actually never have had to do that....except maybe for a migraine or two.

Westchester Craft Show

I did Westchester (White Plains, NY) last weekend for the first time. It's held in a community center and has an audience obviously familiar with the show. The load in and out were easy in spite of cold rain, and the show volunteers friendly and helpful. Coffee and pastries available in the mornings, apples and candy to keep us going. It's like doing a show in a tiny convention center. I think there were under 100 booths. Ppl seemed to come and hang around most of the day, taking coffee breaks,… Continue

I had a couple of shows like this fall - one was the GO! Downtown Albuquerque Arts Festival (September) and the other was MusicArte de Fort Worth (October). Nothing ventured nothing gained, but I could so easily have done without these -- mainly Musicarte cause it cost a frickn fortune to spend a week in Texas between Cottonwood and it. Have I mentioned, its so great to be home?!
