Gamblers Anonymous for Artists?

After being in shows for awhile, I'm beginning to think that being an artist @ outdoor shows is like being a gambler. It's all about hope and luck. This show wasn't very good, but maybe the next one will be?It's like we're sitting at the gambling machine called art shows, putting in our money and pulling the lever. Sometimes you win and sometimes you don't. Sometimes they buy, sometimes they walk by. You never know how it's going to turn out. Weather, economy, promoter, booth location and…See More

Avoid Evanston Lakeshore Art Festival

Posted on August 7, 2011 at 6:29pm 10 Comments

Poor attendance and few buyers both days even when the weather was good.

Most exhibitors said they barely made their $310 booth fee on Saturday or didn't make their booth fee.

Difficult set up; and tickets and towing were threatened to get exhibitors to move their vehicles.

Expensive weekend for me with few sales.

Blame the economy? I did for awhile until I talked to another exhibitor who had done the show for many years and had moved on to another show…

Amy Amdur Show

Posted on January 2, 2011 at 10:08am 17 Comments

I had heard that AA shows were really great. I applied to Arlington Heights as it wasn't too far from Milwaukee, where I live. The show was expensive, but I thought I might try one of her shows. When we arrived in the town, we saw many empty buildings. The town was well maintained, and the show is in a nice area. Sales were poor, and those of artists around me were also poor. Potter across from me was having a great show and had done the show before. This was the exception. Weather may have…

First-Year Milwaukee DomesArt Festival Shows Promise

Posted on August 31, 2010 at 3:34pm 2 Comments

I was at the Milwaukee Domes Art Festival. After reading the postings about this show, I have to correct a few inaccuracies. There was a lot of advertising, besides the great Web site. There was 3-4 days of interviews by Gus Gnorski on Fox6 News morning show. There were ads in the Journal and on various radio stations.

It was a first-year show so fees were lower. They did make mistakes, but doesn't every show?

I sold well there. I'm one of the few who did according to others I've… Continue
