Hugo Cruz replied to Hugo Cruz's discussion 'Sold an XL artwork at a show, they want it shipped -- Advice on FREIGHT companies.'
Hi Jacki, Thank you for the reply.  But, yes, depending on the artwork sold and if it was close enough to me I would be more than glad to deliver it myself and charge a nominal fee, of course, if it was over an hour away. Also, $10 an…

Hugo, the large piece that you need to ship, how far is it going?  I knew an artist that occasional just delieved it themself.  That was usually only done when the delivery area was within a 2 hour drive.  With the price of shipping…

Sorry you had problems contacting Craters and Freighters.  Yes, the message taking was their routine but they always called me back and gave the quote. Glad you were able to work out the details and solve your problems and get the work to your…

Hugo Cruz replied to Alisno Antelman's discussion 'Are ultra long show hours necessary?'
I have to agree with a previous reply.  If the hours were known to you prior to applying, then you should abide by them ... No complaints.  Sometimes it works and other times it is a waste of time.  There is never an exact science and…

When my husband and I did shows, we did use Craters and Freighters a whole lot.  They picked up the work, crated it, insured it and then shipped it via a contracted common carrier.  Never had any problem - much of the work was quite large,…

Sold an XL artwork at a show, they want it shipped -- Advice on FREIGHT companies.

(A little history)I am trying to get the best price for a customer who bought a very large artwork at a show and wants it shipped.  The artwork, with packaging (crate) is too big to ship via regular UPS/FedEX/DHL/USPS ground.  Also, when investigating quotes with UPS/FedEX/DHL FREIGHT divisions, I was hocked to discover that they do NOT accept shipments of "original art" ... Can you believe that?  So, I would have to lie abotu the contents just to use their services.  However, even if I did,…See More

Not to influence you either one way or the other. but here are some things to consider. I've been doing workshops for the past seven years on preparing good jury images and every time the question comes up about using multiple images within one…

You need to ask the shows you are applying to. Only they can tell you if they will accept multiple images within one image.Larry Bermanhttp://BermanGraphics.com412-401-8100

Can I add MULTIPLE angles of a single artwork in one ZAPP 1920x1920 image?

Quick question.  Are you allowed to show multiple angles of ONE artwork in one 1920x1920 ZAPP image?  I have a wall sculpture that is 78"x24" and showing it in either a side view or a front view leaves plenty of negative black space.  Preferably, I would like to submit within ONE ZAPP 1920x1920 a side view (to show the three dimensional depth of the artwork), a front view and perhaps close-up of a section for detail ... is this frowned upon? Awaiting reply for an application tonight! What are the best things about art fairs
Meeting new people and seeing prior patrons again.
Best show ever and why
Gainesville's Downtown Festival & Art Show -- In my hometown and it happens to be one of the top shows in the country. Always great sales, great weather, great people; And, not to sound biased, I'll be the poster artist for this year, 2010.
Worst show ever and why
None yet ... There have been a few shows that have not done as well as usual, but it has been more due to the economy than the promoters. So, I feel no reason to say anything disparaging about a specific show.

Hugo, One last thing, how heavy are you metal pieces that cause the mesh walls to sag? I'm just about to order the mesh walls. If I had a van I could stick with my current set-up but the mesh walls are cheaper than another car! Thanks, Paul.

Hi Hugo,

I've been totally happy with Teamac. I haven't run into any problems at all with my service, so I haven't had to test the customer service much, but when I called they have always been there and very helpful. No hidden charges at all, and they have actually absorbed recent price increases from their service providers. They are very nice people. Try calling them again and tell them all of your concerns. They will take the time to talk to you, and are not pushy.

I hope that helps,
Sheila
