Sherri Calkins commented on Scott Fox's blog post Are You a Fan of AFI? How About a Quick Testimonial?
"AFI is priceless!  It is my number 1 stop when I have a question about anything related art fairs!!  From how to weight my tent, to reports on the shows, to how to display my work.  But even more importantly, this has become a much…"

Sherri Calkins replied to Renee Sullivan's discussion Taking orders at art shows in the group Photographers Darkroom
"I think you understand perfectly!  I take paid orders in my booth farily regularly for an item I will ship/deliver later, so yes, absolutely, it can & does happen.  But again, many will say "let…"

Sherri Calkins replied to Renee Sullivan's discussion Taking orders at art shows in the group Photographers Darkroom
"Typically, a customer will want to take their purchase with them that day.  There are exceptions in situations where the work requires professional installation due to size or weight.  Photographers typically have framed work and matted…"

Sherri Calkins replied to Dale Yakaites (Yak)'s discussion Notecard printer in the group Photographers Darkroom
"If you use VistaPrint (which I do, by the way) set up a pro account.  This will get you a cheaper price on the cards and also they will not put their logo on back which could be a turn off to some customers.  The envelopes are included…"

Sherri Calkins replied to Geoff Coe's discussion QR Codes: Better than Business Cards?
"I have had my QR code posted at the last 6 or so shows and have only had one person scan it, that I know of.  Many people actually thought it was art (seriously!).  But I agree, we will see more people using it in…"

Sherri Calkins commented on Michelle Wermuth's blog post Does this offend you?
"I loved this cartoon and shared it with my family when I saw it in the "Thank you I have a job" post on this site.  You have to take the pie chart in context with the frames fore and aft...it was a perfect addition to the previous…"

Jacqueline Webster replied to Sherri Calkins's discussion Frames: Wood vs. Metal or other?? in the group Photographers Darkroom

Jim Parker replied to Sherri Calkins's discussion Frames: Wood vs. Metal or other?? in the group Photographers Darkroom
"I use both. I have matte black wide frames for the larger work, and thinner matte black frames for the small stuff. I am going to phase out the 11x14 and 16x20 frames, with a few exceptions. I also use Techline Florentine finish frames for work…"

Jacqueline Webster replied to Sherri Calkins's discussion Frames: Wood vs. Metal or other?? in the group Photographers Darkroom

Larry Berman replied to Sherri Calkins's discussion Frames: Wood vs. Metal or other?? in the group Photographers Darkroom
"If you've read my photography forum or my posts here, I'd rather sell matted unframed and just use framed work for display. I don't think the added pricing justifies the additional inventory or work involved. Larry Berman"

Frames: Wood vs. Metal or other??

I started doing shows last October using wood frames which are now showing signs of the transportation.  I carry a paint pen with me (all frames are black) to do touch ups.  I also transport them in felt cases that I made myself which, I'm sure, has helped minimize the damage.  But I don't feel good about asking someone to pay a few hundred dollars for a piece of art that has a frame with a few dings in it.I have seen some of my fellow photographers using metal frames.  I do like the look and…See More

Sherri Calkins commented on Alison Thomas's blog post When is it proper to break down early (or not set up at all)

What are the best things about art fairs
Talking with people, meeting other artist, the atmosphere
Best show ever and why
Temple Terrace Community Arts Fest - juried artist were separate from the crafters and most of the people seemed genuinely interested in the art.
Worst show ever and why
St. James UMC Fall Fest because I sold very little. People came to enjoy the festival, kids attractions and the weather, not to shop. Set up and tear down all in one day was a lot of work to break even. But still enjoyed talking with everyone :)
Who referred you to ArtFairInsiders.com? Please be specific.

Welcome to OUR world Sherri!  Of course I remeber you from Winterfest.  How did the Wesley Chapel show go last weekend?  We were at a wholesale show and frankly 2D art was not on anyone's buying list for their shops.  Talk to you later!
