Michelle Sholund said… - I received your message from the show organizers and directors group. You asked for help in finding indoor shows as well as tips for newbies. My best advice is to keep your eyes and ears open for anything and everything. I do all kinds of shows - some simple craft shows and festivals to juried events. I visit websites like local tourism departments in counties I want to do shows as well as through out the state - they always have a calender of events with contact info. Other places to check are magazines that are online/printed or both such as Sunshine Artists (recommended), festivalnet.com, AFC.com, Crafts Report and the like. Be sure you apply early as jewelry is a medium that gets crowded out quickly and have excellent photos of your work. Most shows ask for photos - especially juried events.
As for tips check the forums here ESPECIALLY OLDER POSTS. Many conversations get repeated over and over, but the info is just being repeated and some older posts get more responses. I personally do a blog geared towards both newbie artists as well as seasoned ones found on www.quickcraftartisttips.blogspot.com - and I post a blog once a week regarding how to display ones work at a show, my delimas about canopies, and the sort - all in all fun yet very informative. Between both here on this site and my blog you will find some great info for getting your feet wet.
