"I kind of liked this challenge and really liked the portraits - except Lola's. I was sad to see Dusty go home and happy to see Lola go. I did not care for Lola's attitude throughout this season - and was really upset when in the graffiti…"

Karla Ries replied to Connie Mettler's discussion Work of Art: The Next Great Artist?
"Ultimately his was not the winning piece. Song's Missing WeiPei black stacks of papers won - but Dusty's was in the top 3.   And yes, I typically do not understand the winning pieces either. :)"

Karla Ries replied to Connie Mettler's discussion Work of Art: The Next Great Artist?
"I liked Dusty's piece the best with the map of the US - although I do see the homage to POW. I don't think that was his intention - but it did visually remind of that image.   I did not care for the winning piece - I kept thinking of…"

Karla Ries replied to Connie Mettler's discussion Work of Art: The Next Great Artist?
"I watched this show the first season and have enjoyed the first two episodes of the current season. I too am glad the internal organ artist has been eliminated. Her angst was just too much to take. Although the fact disclosed during the episode that…"

Karla Ries replied to Jennifer A Hauff's discussion Crazy about sparkly stuff
"I wonder if you wet them somehow if they would show more sparkle? Without seeing your photos - it's hard to tell how you are lighting them now."

Karla Ries replied to Linda and Jim Dalton's discussion Learn from our mistake!
"Especially easy to get mixed up - if you have someone else working the booth with you. For me - it would be my husband and I could see this happening if one of us stepped out when someone came in to retrieve an earlier purchase.   Thanks for…"

Karla Ries commented on Connie Mettler's blog post Welcome new advertiser: Pedestal Express
"Patrick - I believe the pedestals are yours - and yes there are instructions and rubber mallet included to assemble them. I think I have a valid opinion - however it is only that - my personal opinion. Many others may have different…"

Karla Ries commented on Connie Mettler's blog post Welcome new advertiser: Pedestal Express
"An arts organization I work with in Illinois uses these pedestals for their annual Art Show. They look very nice - however, they are a pain to assemble and dis-assemble. They only have to put them together once a year - I could not imagine having to…"

What are the best things about art fairs
The opportunity to have my art viewed by a wide range of buyers. I enjoy the energy of each event and meeting and chatting with people about art.
Best show ever and why
Penrod art fair in Indianapolis. A highly engaged buying group - predisposed to art due to admission. Beautiful setting. Easy set up and take down. Good show sales wise.
Worst show ever and why
Rising Sun, Indiana. The weekend was lovely - but the crowd was not buying. However, the awards make this potentially a good show.

Review - Winter Market - Eiteljorg - Indianapolis IN

Posted on December 6, 2010 at 1:11pm 4 Comments

This last Saturday was the Winter Market held at the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis Indiana. This was my 5 or 6th Eiteljorg show (I also participate in the Women in Art show in the spring) and overall it was in keeping with past shows.

Load in is not the easiest as you have to park at a curb - traverse a winding ramp to gain access into the museum and then depending upon booth location possibly load onto a very small elevator.

This year, layout was more…

Indianapolis Garfield Park Autumn Arts Festival

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 11:21am 0 Comments

This was our second year doing this small show (it's third year in existence) and we were overall pleased with results.

This is an indoor show held in the small but lovely Garfield Park Arts Center. The organizer is very accommodating and goes out of her way to communicate all aspects of the show - from advertising/publicity to food arrangements. Organizer also arranges to have a few musical/dance groups perform periodically which enlivens the…

Any history with Indiana Art Fair

Posted on November 8, 2010 at 4:00pm 3 Comments

I'm excited to have been juried into the upcoming Indiana Art Fair to be held at the Indiana State Museum in February 2011.

Does anyone have any history with this event? I'm curious as to what I can anticipate in way of attendance size and past purchase behavior.

Thanks for any input you can share.

2 Indianapolis, Indiana shows

Posted on September 29, 2009 at 2:00pm 2 Comments

Well, I have officially gotten my art business off the ground and running. We are ArtIsRelative representing the works of myself (painter/photographer), my husband (photographer/woodworker) and my father (painter). We did two weekend's of shows back to back - our first outdoor shows and only our third shows ever.

Fountain Square was two weekends ago and Rocky Ripple was this past weekend.

Fountain Square was the smaller of the two with maybe 40 artists represented and only the… Continue
