Uptown Open Jury

Started this discussion. Last reply by Karin Neuvirth Apr 8, 2010. 11 Replies

The St. Louis Open Jury was too long of a drive for me - plus it fell during my vacation.  But I do intend to attend the Uptown Open Jury tomorrow in Minneapolis for the first time.  There is a…Continue

New booth shot ready to go!

Started Jan 31, 2010 0 Replies

I was so excited to get my new litedome tent after a few years with the ez-up.  I took my new booth shots yesterday inside the church. Sent them to Larry Berman today for some adjustments, and I…Continue

Karin Neuvirth left a comment for Tracy Haines
Hi Tracy, I do like my mesh panels. They go up easily and they don't take up much space in my van. They also let a breeze blow through the tent which helps to keep us cool on hot days. My paintings don't lean forward, but they are all on…

Karin, do you like your mesh panels? I think I'm going to buy them because they seem light and easy to put up. Do you find them flimsy or notice your paintings tilting forward? ( I'm hesitant to buy the pro panels since cost is doubled.

Don, I looked at your website, and your boxes are absolutely beautiful. I can see why you might not do well in a country craft venue because I don't think that is your target market. You definately belong in the Juried shows. I think that for…

Karin Neuvirth replied to Barry Bernstein's discussion 'Paying Booth Fees in Advance'
I always plan on paying for all of my shows for the year before May. It's just the nature of the business.

Karin Neuvirth replied to Michele Aluisia's discussion 'Newbie! How many different subjects are acceptable for an art show?'
I think that your style is what should show a cohesive body of work, not necessarily the subject matter.

Larry Berman replied to Karin Neuvirth's discussion 'Uptown Open Jury'
OK, Here's where there might be a potential problem. Is the place that's doing the scanning actually scanning in RGB or are they scanning into the CMYK color mode? I just worked with a painter who had professional scans done to print…

Karin Neuvirth replied to Karin Neuvirth's discussion 'Uptown Open Jury'
I don't actually scan my own images - I have to take them somewhere as they are 1.5" thick on Canvas and 24"x36" in size.

Scan the gray scale chart also and do the same processing you do when scanning your paintings. Then check the values and see if they still are neutral. I wrote an article that may help you…

Karin Neuvirth replied to Karin Neuvirth's discussion 'Uptown Open Jury'
Thanks for the tip Larry. The images that I had were actually scanned instead of photographed, so I think my problem was with to much red in my paintings, But we do sometimes photograph my work, and always have trouble with the reds - I'll try…

Karin Neuvirth replied to Karin Neuvirth's discussion 'Uptown Open Jury'
I also hated how my reds looked when projected, but seeing them projected like that helped me too realize that I was over-doing it with the reds in my paintings. I think seeing my work projected on to the wall has helped me to see a couple of things…

Larry Berman replied to Karin Neuvirth's discussion 'Uptown Open Jury'
Hi Ginny, Have you been to any other open juries where you've seen your images digitally projected? It's possible that you are preparing your images too warm without realizing it. Are you doing your editing on a laptop? If you include a…

Thanks for the great advice on the Christmas show. I wanted to ask you to be a friend but for some reason I have forgotten how to do that. Duh, and usually I am ok with computers.
