John Hartung commented on Geoff Coe's blog post Atalaya (Huntington Beach SC) or Neptune Festival?
"Geoff, I'm contemplating between those two shows also. I've done the Neptune show and can tell you the setup and take down is difficult, requires a dolly (big distance). It attracts a large crowd, but they aren't big spenders. I did…"

John Hartung commented on Paul Flack's blog post July
"In July I have Boston Mills and Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair (Guild Show) for certain. I'm on the wait list for Madison's Art On The Square and on the wait list for Geneva Art Fair in Geneva, IL. So far this year I've been placed on 10…"

John Hartung commented on Oscar Matos Linares's blog post Traveling
"Oscar, I'll be there. I'll try to take my time and get some photography done along the way. I go nuts driving those long days! Hope you choose to spread it out, try to enjoy the drive if you can."

John Hartung commented on John Leben's blog post Success (finally) at Winter Park
"Congratulations John! I thought this would be the Florida show for you! You had a better Winter Park than I did, but I still did very good for me. The reason why it was my slowest Winter Park Spring show ever, was probably because I was down one of…"

John Hartung commented on Geoff Coe's blog post Surviving Venice: Mar. 3-4, 2012
"Great report Geoff! It was my first experience doing the Venice Art Festival and I was very satisfied with sales and a little surprised it's been off my radar. I thank you for your past posts on this show, as it was one of the reasons I had…"

John Hartung commented on Bill Sargent's blog post Gasparilla 2012.. the bad part
"Wow, I thought it was bad in Venice. The location is obviously not kind from winds. I would think the Art Museum  and Children's Museum would of blocked some of the wind coming out of the north, but doesn't seem to have been the case."

John Hartung commented on John Leben's blog post Naples National Provides Disappointing Sales
"I agree with you John. I stopped doing this show because the two times I did it I was placed in an out of a way location in the park. I'm glad someone is listening from the show, if changes are made I may try it again. I fared less than $1200…"

John Hartung replied to Chickie Arendas's discussion Information concerning ZAP and JAS
"I'm so happy you are moving to one of these digital jury systems. I have used all three and have no strong opinion of one over another, but will point out Zapplication is the most popular. I also hope while doing so you will no longer require…"

John Hartung commented on Geoff Coe's blog post A Dickens of a show: Jupiter ArtiGras, Feb. 18-20, 2012
"Great report Geoff! It was my first time at Artigras but had done Coconut Grove a few times so have a few comparisons. Like the Coconut Grove they have the same $10 gate fee for admission with crowds being good but less than at Coconut Grove. Setup…"

John Hartung commented on Tahmi DeSchepper's blog post Application Dealbreakers
"I almost never apply to a show that is asking for the booth fee upfront and has no refund policy. I too was going to apply to Talbot Street, but did not once I saw their policy. There are too many good shows out there that don't have such a non…"

John Hartung commented on Geoff Coe's blog post Coconut Point New Year's Weekend Art Festival: Dec. 31, 2011-Jan. 1, 2012
"Glad you had a great show at Naples National last year. I do hear good reports from some artists there, but it has never materialized for me. Maybe my low attendance estimate for Naples National was because the two times I've done Naples…"

John Hartung commented on Geoff Coe's blog post Coconut Point New Year's Weekend Art Festival: Dec. 31, 2011-Jan. 1, 2012
"Excellent review Geoff and glad you had a good show! It certainly didn't feel like your usual Howard Alan Event with the day before setup, lots of room behind your booth (8 feet for most artists), and even breakfast (provided by Costco). I…"

John Hartung commented on Alison Thomas's blog post Disney 2011
"Good post Alison, I agree with you about the artist treatment. Disney's employees are always so nice and courteous, even the janitors and grounds keepers. I did get in trouble Friday for running my lights on my deep cycle battery. This was a…"

John Hartung replied to Geoff Coe's discussion Why is December a "dead zone" in Florida?
"I think as it gets closer to Christmas people are thinking more in the lines of gifts and not for themselves. While I think art as a gift is great for it's unique and personal nature, it's also more difficult to decide on for someone else.…"

The Jersey Shore Fine Art Festival - June 12, 13th

Posted on June 28, 2010 at 6:36pm 7 Comments

This was my first art festival I've participated of Bill Kinney's. He is a relatively a new promoter on the scene whose company name is Paragon Fine Art Festivals. The show takes place at Ship Bottom, New Jersey. It's a small beach town located on Long Beach Island, also known as LBI. It is about half way down the coast of New Jersey. The demographics of this area appear to be wealthy, at least on the island. This show is… Continue

My Canopy Dilemma

My Canopy Dilemma

I have a Show Off Canopy and love the frame. It's strong and easy to setup. I love the telescoping legs and frame. This and their limited number of parts make setup easy. Most of it is aluminum making it light, but it has steal corners to make it strongest in the most vulnerable area.

However, my 2nd top I've had for the canopy in 7 years is again turning colors. The skylight material is turning a rusty redish color. It's surface very sticky (like sap).… Continue
