Pete, I love January. We own a small art gallery and are slammed with small items to create during Christmas. January is the time to get painting for the summer. I have tell myself I have to have at least 25-30 units by the end of January. I find if…

Yes I did do the Crab Dance! Sales were ok to good. I really think if we have the attitude to ask your self one and only one question, "Where am I going to make $375 in a day and possibly then $1400 to $8000 in the next day?" (I…

Hooray! Another great blogger has joined our ranks. 1. Good writing, irreverent and witty 2. Good report 3. Photos that help tell the story 4. Inspiring ending -- yep, festivals can turn out to be anything: real duds, great and plenty in between.…

Very nice review and message. That second photo (with the silhouettes in the foreground) is excellent! Best show shot I think I have ever seen.

Barbara, There were at least 45 booths with jewelry. It was crazy they allowed that many, some beaders and mostly imports. Many people who did jewelry left at night. The really bad part was a young girl from Maryland that left her jewelry in her…

SURPRISES! Blue Crab Festival, Myrtle Beach SC

Blue Crab Festival, Myrtle Beach SC, May 15 & 16, 2010.This was the scariest show on the planet. I am learning that festivals that have strict guidelines don’t necessarily follow them. If the numbers are good it doesn’t mean that they attract the crowd you are looking for. But, I learned my lesson to not judge a book by it’s cover.Upon my arrival at 6:00 am I look around and proceed to see more imported items than the boat from China. My heart sinks, fine art no way. There were 8 fine…See More

Jill, I also have applied and should see something this week. I did see a comment a few months ago that one artist said he would leave his day job for 2 days due to doing very well years before. The lodging is really expensive hotel-motel. I did…

What are the best things about art fairs
The great personal relationship with the client. There is nothing more rewarding seeing the eye contact and the movement toward your booth when they see something they can't live without. A smile or chuckle about your work is really great. My true paycheck is where you have changed someones environment and they tell you about it. It's great
Best show ever and why
I did a show in Beaufort SC. We were packed in like crabs in a trap and couldn't walk around the tent. I was so scared upon arrival when I saw an "artist" selling painted painted purchased dollar store lighthouses . (Here's your sign.) Everyone did around $200 it was crafts and buy sell, it wasn't a good show. Lots of people but no buyers. I still put out the best work I could and sold over $1500. The same exact thing happened in Myrtle Beach a year later. My husband said I could sell sand to a sandman! You have to talk with your clients-make the connection.
Worst show ever and why
Oh, The old church show. Do it for the Christian school the children attend but, hey who could make $280 in an afternoon inside smelling bbq and baked goods? Yum City

Copy KATS. Artist beware!

Hey Everyone.

Wanted to share a little situation that has happen to me and boy it has just blown the wind out of my blond hair doo. Skip can validate via the show in Myrtle Beach.

My crabs are being copied and repainted in a classroom for profit studio!

I found a web site that has done a fantastic job of clipping YOUR artwork. They teach it in classes and they are located in Mt. Pleasant SC. The take on the studio is that you pay them $30-$40 dollars and you get a… Continue

Fantastic Gallery Sales!

Posted on April 2, 2010 at 12:23pm 5 Comments

I know that this is a web site for art shows, but I must share outstanding experience with one of the galleries I work with. We artist can make a paycheck with art shows and galleries. The gallery I work with pay’s a monthly check that is comparable to a good show. So, I don’t discount them and truly hate the 50% split.

Last I week went humming down the coast to bring artwork to 2 galleries that represent me. They have been really hurting this past year due to the…
