Got to tell you a story about new setup. Had just got the Trimline and my sister and I set it up in the backyard once. Went with sis to Madison to Art on The Square. On the way to the show for setup I started getting sick!. By the time we pulled up…

I have to reply to this.  I think even more of a problem than imported "art or craft" are the manufacturing "artists". Who knows who made the work?  I know of a number of glass artists that have good blowers working for…

Hi Mark I suspect that you have solved you're problem by now.  If not here are some tips.  EZ UP tie a rope from the middle of one tent pole to the other-taut. This helps with the sides swooping in too far.  The sta bars will…

Just read this whole string!  Ya gotta love it!  This is better than TV.  Not counting "The Walking Dead". I do wish that there was a minimum dollar amount for charges.  Just makes sense.

I agree.  They expect you to make a deadline!  They should keep their own as well.  I've seen this on the increase the last two years.  Its money plain and simple.  The number of app's did not meet the dollar goal.…

Greg Heihn replied to Larry Berman's discussion 'Is it about art or is it not?'
I went into my glass work as a business after the printing plant I worked at closed the doors.  I was 53 and had been working in glass since 1970.. Up until the plant closing I made what I wanted and did not care if it sold or not. I did art…

Greg Heihn replied to Marjorie S Rawson's discussion 'New Year.....Can I make it through another?'
Yep-concerned and kind of gave up.  Can't sustain the costs and lack of profit-or just break even money. I had a good time and gave it a try but just to tired and old to keep up the effort.  Time to just do what I like in art and not…

LOL. She is not the first fiance, wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, son, daughter, etc. who has not enjoyed the fairs. It does make a difference and has taken many artists off the road. It takes a VERY understanding and flexible person to pitch…

Thanks Connie. Just sent the payment and sometime today I'll get the sale items posted. I hope I did not come across as a whinny artist.  I did many fairs with my sister who shared my enthusiasm. That alone is priceless!  If my…

TIME TO GO-EVERYTHING FOR SALE!

I wrote once that an artist doing art fairs can control only so much.  We try to have a good display, a good tent and do as many good art fairs as we can.  We can't control the economy, the weather and other things.  Some things are just beyond our control.  After all is said and done and it still is not working we have to look at the hardest thing to even contemplate, that what you create is just not what people want. The last 4 years I have spent $4 to $6 bucks for every $1 made.  It's time…See More

And both of these shows talk about the numbers of application being the best ever, the quality of the artists higher than ever, etc. This is the shows patting themselves on the back. Maybe they can't count on us doing it for them.

What are the best things about art fairs
Meeting people. Other artists, patrons and organizers. It's great fun and very rewarding.
Best show ever and why
I think my best show -NOT $$$ wise- was Peoria Il. The art guild and people working the show were the most wonderful I have ever worked with. They had fun and made it fun for the artists.
Worst show ever and why
Art on the Square in Madison Wisc. Got in after 3 years. Had violent food poisoning the evening of setup so my sister put up the "New" tent and display pretty much by herself. A front end loader was parked 3 feet behind the tent leaking oil and I zeroed!
One the way home I blew a tire and it wrecked my rear air cond and heating.

Hi Paula
Up north of the cities we did not get much, about 3" and blowing. Buts it's very cold about 8 below the last two mornings and only a forecasted high of 12 above. You're not missing anything!
Gotta keep the kilns full and running to save on gas-yeah right!
