Chris Hoyt replied to Maria Naranjo's discussion 'Mall Craft Shows'
"...I take issue that "People no longer go to malls to shop." In my area the malls are packed. It must just depend on where you are..." Up here there are no malls at all. It's a minimum 1 hour drive to a mall that has…

So that's how I  got in! I thought it was because I'm a wonderful person!

Woodwill. Now there's a name from the deep recessess of my alleged mind. I lived about 15 minutes from Rockaway. My mother in law still lives there. I watched that mall get built.  And I remember Livingston being this long, narrow 2…

Morristown? I grew up in Succasunna. Escaped to the north country years ago. I did some mall shows (Rockaway, Livingston) a long time ago, and never did well. And if you have small items, especially in that area, you NEED cases. Stuff…

Chris Hoyt replied to Connie Mettler's discussion 'What are you doing this weekend -- January 27-29?'
We're still waiting for snow here in Vermont. Here it is the end of January and there isn't 3 feet of snow on the lawn. There's no snow at all. It's 7 am and it's 35 degrees outside. Usually it's between 0 and minus…

Just because some people dont do well at a show is not a reason to a claim or information that cannot be backed. I did a few of Bills show last year and my sales where up and down, Fairfax VA  in April was one of my best show and…

I did several shows with Bill last summer...my first experience with Paragon.  My results were OK, but that's not the point (other than to establish I'm not a shill): At every show I did, Bill walked the show on Sunday afternoon and…

I registered there just so I could reply but I will also reply here.  I have done an average of 15 shows a year for the past nine years.  Bill Kinney is one of only two promoters, show directors, etc that I would recognize on sight…

Interesting Thread Over at SA Forum

Over at the Sunshine Artist forum http://www.sunshineartist.com/forum/index.php somebody posted a pretty scathing note about paragon. She pretty much trashed them.I tried to be friendly by just asking general questions about what her medium was, etc, but she said that wasn't necessary. Then Bill Kinney responded. It might be worth a read, and is he accurate in what he says? I have never dealt with him, but he was surely angry, using…See More

Hey, if you have an open weekend, do it. You'll have a captive market, so if I were you I sure would give it a shot.

I've been with RLI for over 20 years. But I can't tell you how good their claims service is because I never had to file a claim. Here's their website. http://my.rlicorp.com/Products/DoBusiness.asp

I pay $281 for a full year's coverage with RLI. And they'll add the promoter to the list. And since I do so many shows, it's nice to know I'm covered whether or not it's a requirement.

Chris Hoyt replied to Dennis Brady's discussion 'Extended application deadline, good or bad?'
Which is exactly why shows/fairs have more openings. We are holding on to our money more and not traveling as much. There was a time when many exhibitors hitched up the trailer and went out on the 'circuit'. Not so much anymore.…

You can also go over to the SA website forums, and there's a section where you can ask the editor/publisher questions. They reply pretty quick.

Chris Hoyt replied to Michelle Davis Petelinz's discussion 'Greetings from Raleigh, NC!'
Welcome Michelle. This forum needs more members with your perspective on shows. We have, in my opinion, too many exhibitors in this business with this "us vs them" attitude about promoters.

Yes I do. A small church show my wife dragged me to. We made $20 and I was hooked.

I love the interaction with the people. I love bantering and laughing with customers.
Best show ever and why
I've done so many wonderful shows I can't pick just one.
Worst show ever and why
When we started out we made 78 cents at a show in NJ.
