I just had to post this, because I'm actually amazed I got a response this quickly. Framer Dude and I are leaving for a 4 month show tour through MI and New England, and I've been racking my brains…Continue

Just curious...I was approached by them, saw the thread a few months back here on AFI, and gut said "scam".  Anyone heard about them airing the show?

What's the deal with New England shows?

Why aren't there many high end art festivals in New England?  Besides Bill from Paragon, who's fairly new, and Denise Morris Curt, why no biggies like a CocoGro or the South Florida string?  I'm originally from Long Island, and I know the demographics are there, all the way up the coast.  So why???  Is it because all the art collectors think "good art" only comes from a gallery?  Is it that the real estate is limited for a show (then how come the monster truck venues, hmmm...)?  There's tons of…See More

being around other artists and the freedom
Best show ever and why
Winter Park that just passed. In my 2nd year on the FL circuit, I felt like I "passed the test" of my rookie year, got to see all my new artist peeps that I've become friends with, plus I won an award!
Worst show ever and why
Howard Alan's Naples New Year's show 2009. No sales, big disappointment, horrible 5 am setup, booths crowded together, no people, SO and I had terrible fight...

What has the world come to-robbing artists?

Posted on September 20, 2011 at 9:12pm 25 Comments

The past few months I've become more aware of a disturbing trend that seems to be on the rise-breaking into artists' booths at night.  I'm dwelling on this now by the cozy light of a campfire in nowhere, Rhode Island and a cold one in hand, and I'm...puzzled? vicariously violated? utterly astounded? all of the above? -by the fact that people are desperate enough to steal from the starving.  OK, most of us here…

Two gutterballs in a row...

I am licking my wounds right now and avoiding my credit card statements after the last two shows where I didn't even make expenses.  Two shows which by all research should have been at least paycheck shows, and I'm all out of Xanax.  What is an artist to do?

Setauket, a little village of wonderful demographics right next door to my hometown on Long Island, sorely disappointed in many ways, especially with the nighttime booth robberies.  But I'll address that in another blogpost.  I…

Mystic Show-Meet the Artisans, July 30 & 31

Posted on August 10, 2011 at 9:51am 5 Comments

This is one of several shows in Mystic, and this one is put on by Denise Morris Curt.  It’s a small show, about 60 artists, and I prefer the intimate atmosphere of a smaller show.  It’s on the village green next to the Old Mystic Village Shops, which provides a lot of foot traffic, and next to a restaurant, which provides the waiting for a table folks around 5 or 6. …

You know it’s going to be a bad show when...

...you arrive at the show at 6:30 am and there are homeless people sleeping in the park.

...you leave your plastic coffee mug at your booth to visually mark your spot and it becomes a projectile in a…

Thanks Caroline. I am not sure I will do many shows this coming year, but I think I will get a lot of inspiration from this group. I did vow not to join another social group, but just couldn't resist this one. I probably won't be too active until I can get out of "the job!"
