The past few months I've become more aware of a disturbing trend that seems to be on the rise-breaking into artists' booths at night. I'm dwelling on this now by the cozy light of a campfire in nowhere, Rhode Island and a cold one in hand, and I'm...puzzled? vicariously violated? utterly astounded? all of the above? -by the fact that people are desperate enough to steal from the starving. I am licking my wounds right now and avoiding my credit card statements after the last two shows where I didn't even make expenses. Two shows which by all research should have been at least paycheck shows, and I'm all out of Xanax. What is an artist to do?

This is one of several shows in Mystic, and this one is put on by Denise Morris Curt. It’s a small show, about 60 artists, and I prefer the intimate atmosphere of a smaller show. It’s on the village green next to the Old Mystic Village Shops, which provides a lot of foot traffic, and next to a restaurant, which provides the waiting for a table folks around 5 or 6. …
