C.C. Barton replied to Helen Knecht's discussion Best Scanner and Printer for Art Work
"I really like my Plustek OpticPro A320, large format (12 x 17) flatbed scanner.   I used to have a very pricey Epson large format scanner and when it became obsolete due to software changes I found the Plustek.  I was skeptical at…"

"HI Jane, Chris beat me to it.  Your rug is totally distracting from your work!  That struck me immediately as your most urgent issue to solve.  Get a solid color rug or those connecting tiles that some artists use and it will have an…"

"Wait a minute...Albuquerque is 65 miles from Santa Fe. What's wrong with you driving an hour or so to get your glass? Plus you get to see the big city lights and have some fun not happening in Santa Fe."

"You might try Overhead Door of Santa Fe. Overhead Door companies often carry boxed glass lites."

"How often or difficult have you found the problem of glass breakage, during transport? I also found the weight to be challenging. I prefer glass for the clarity and cost. The other factors made it a deterrence for me."

"Hi Larry, Thank you for the suggestion of acrylic, but I've tried it and don't care for it for my work.  I prefer glass for a variety of reasons. I don't need to search for a vendor anymore.  The really good news is that a…"

"I agree with the "nuts" factor. I try not to use glass, anymore. The acrylic doesn't shatter and damage the photos during transport. It is a lot lighter in weight. If it gets scratched, it can be polished out. It costs a lot more,…"

"Yes, I have checked out other suppliers farther away.  In fact, I lived in Santa Fe from 2005-2007 and at that time the Colorado company I had been dealing with for years also delivered to New Mexico, but I chose to do business with a company…"

"I'm sure you checked out other suppliers, further away. The problem being time to acquire product and prohibitive shipping costs. You might be able to work around by ordering a large volume, in one order, from another distributor. This might…"

Best show ever and why
Saint Louis Art Fair - Clayton ...several years ago - Most money and fastest sales...pure art show nirvana.
Worst show ever and why
I have a mental block about this, so the name of the show eludes me...but it was a small show in east Texas many years ago and was so hot and humid I thought I would pass out...and of course there were no buyers out for that kind of punishment. Nada...zip.

Where to get Tru Vue Framing Glass in Santa Fe, NM

Posted on November 1, 2017 at 5:15pm 14 Comments

I've just relocated to Santa Fe from Colorado and no longer have delivery of framing glass to my studio in Santa Fe.  This is critical for me as I frame my own work for sale and to ship to galleries.

The only vendor listed on the Tru Vue website in my area was Larson-Juhl, but they don't create accounts if you're not a brick and mortar storefront.

If any of you New Mexico artists who also frame work know of a resource for Tru Vue framing glass, I would appreciate you…

2015 Bellevue Art Museum July show - Review wanted for 2D

Posted on February 8, 2016 at 6:15pm 10 Comments

I've done the BAM show several years running in the past, but was juried out in 2015.  The last time I did it was 2014 and the energy, especially in the evening, was way down.  They don't sell beer and wine for customers to walk around with and the music they provided was inexplicably placed inside the shopping mall with chairs for people to sit in there and listen to the music!  This was, of course, of no benefit to the artists.

I just received my acceptance for 2016 and…

Does anyone have any experience with Queeny Park in St Louis?

Posted on May 16, 2012 at 12:19pm 2 Comments

I've been on the hunt for a few good indoor or panels-only shows to do.  I came across the Queeny Park show in St Louis - apparently they have one in the Spring and one in the Fall.  I'd never heard of it, but have always done well at shows in the St Louis area and wondered if anyone has done this show or has information from anyone they know who's done it.  Thanks!
