I’ve seen a lot of posts lately from artists with the same concerns as mine. Extended deadlines after artists have already been rejected. Exorbitant late application fees. Calls for Artists issued after certain categories are full without disclosure of the categories that are open, if any sometimes. The number of available spaces and applications per medium not fully disclosed. Unknown jury members. Shows trolling artist websites prior to ‘blind’ jurying. Sneaky Buy/Sell crap. …

A year ago in July, I lost my sister and mother within 9 days. My sister was 44, a doctor, and died just 10 months after being diagnosed with oral cancer. My mother had been in relatively poor health for some time, and I believe she just could not handle my sister’s death. It was just three months until my first big show.

Dee Hooks said… Hi Becky-
Thank you for the good thoughts. Apparently I have been banned from thecornerbooth! I tried to log in to delete my membership & apparently it was done for me. I guess Holly did not like my post.
Joan Tweedell said… Hi Becky! I am planning to apply to Art in Speed Park and would love to meet you there. I dithered over applying to Broad Ripple and finally decided to go with Rochester Hills MI on that weekend instead. The other shows I have applied to so far are Tulip Time in Holland MI in early May, Winona Lake IN, Talbot St. in Indy, and Leeper Park here in South Bend in June, and Krasl in MI in July. Keeping my fingers crossed! What ones have you applied to?
Ken and I are both birders and longtime members of the local Audubon chapter. He doesn't come back from Woods Hole until after Labor Day, though.
Joan Tweedell said… Hi Becky! If Kenyon is your cousin then we are related. I live in South Bend and do fairs mostly in Northern Indiana and s. Michigan. I've been at it for over 30 years but still enjoy getting out there and showing my art. Let me know where you will be when you get your 2012 schedule firmed up. I will be at the Pigeon Key and Key West shows in FL in Feb., and will be applying to some shows in Indy, and maybe Sellerburg in So. IN. which has been recommended to me. That's not too far from KY. Best wishes!
