Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals
Hello Everybody,
Pretty quiet....please enter discussion, post questions, or talk about your latest painting or one in progresss!
I've just started a Grand Canyon painting. At first it looked fairly easy....but now that I'm looking at the Canyon wall details (this is a HUGE painting) and trying to get the perspective right on the meandering river was a real challenge. It's 98% done (drawing) and next week I hope to actually start painting it. It's quite daunting.....but I won't let that stop me.
Have been meaning to paint the Canyon for years, as many others have already done it...trying to capture the beauty, the light, the variance of color etc.
Wish me luck and I'll post it once it's done!!
What are you working on?
Carol

Permalink Reply by Kathleen Neff on January 21, 2011 at 12:51pm I have a commissioned watercolor on the board and sketches for several spontaneous titles that have bubbled up over the past month or so : Waiting impatiently in the wings. Unlike some artist friends, I never have more than one painting in progress - I am true to my own billing : One of a Kind / One at a Time!
I do have many projects other than painting at this time of year, especially. .. including a "Drawing Across the Board" workshop due to start in February and later, "Watercolor Across the Board" and "Basics before Mixed Media" both local events to coordinate with more distant shows and exhibits starting later in the season.
This year I'm adding some new venues and retiring several others. As a result I am building up my framed art collection and changing my display layout. Very time consuming and costly! Most of my Festivals and Fairs will feature pursuits other than my watercolor and mixed aqueous paintings and will be new work in artforms familiar to my 'in place' shows: Polymer clay, Decorative paintings and illustrated Wit and Wisdom on recylced woods.
This Saturday, however, I start at dawn in a snowy atmosphere on my deck and take a Day-long trek through MY TOWN...coordinating with the world SketchCrawl. I am a Group of One...taking my elderly jaunt to the county fairgrounds, local parks and winterized picnic shelters, and old buildings surrounding the town square. I'll be doing both pencil/charcoal/conte sketches and watercolor tinted penwork IF my brush doesn't freeze up! All in all they will be put to use during my two workshops later. No matter WHAT shape I'm in when I get home!

Congrats on the commission - can you post it when you are done so we can see it?
We will pray for warmer temps for you so the brush doesn't freeze - good luck!

Permalink Reply by Kathleen Neff on January 21, 2011 at 1:19pm Carol, I will put my camera on notice...get ready -or else! I will definitely have pictures sooner or later...delivery is June as a non-negotiable date. I will post a page or two from my Journal later also...maybe a full-fledged watercolor will emerge from my SketchCrawl.
