Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals

I am staring at my arches paper and nothing is happening. I think it came on when this cold freezing spell started. Does anyone else experience painters block during the winter? What do you do to get out of it? I really need to paint new art for this years shows but Im stuck. Have any suggestions?

Hi Pauline,

So sorry you have "Painters Block" - I've never experienced it. I have been "stuck" once a painting is started - typically I go through a period when I don't like it or don't think it will turn out well. It's at about 70% done. But I usually get past it, and by the time I'm done I'm happy with it.

I paint from a lot of photographs or images that I have either taken or cut out of magazines, calendars etc and keep them in a drawer. When I'm ready to paint I take out the whole stack and pick one...it has to "speak to me" and off I go. If you are feeling under "pressure" because you have new shows...perhaps take some time away from the paper....think about subjects that you are passionate about or images that speak to your "soul" and it will come!

Hope this helps, let us know!

I've been painting since last month Carol. I decided to shift to acrylics for a while and do a few vegetable still lifes. I just post them on FAA. I may do one in Watercolor. I also have a big box of reference pictures too! lol And lately I have been photographing my veggies for quick referrence. The box is heavy too.
