Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals

I've got a painting I did a few years ago, and I need to remove the old damar varnish.  Has anyone done this before?  Got turp ready to go, I'm just nervous about how dangerous this process could be to a painting.

Never tried this.  I'd have to check reference books, and I too would be very nervous about it until I had good information.  Perhaps Damar or the other product companies have information online?
I used to work for an art conservator, and he always did that kind of work, I did the grunt work of precleaning a painting with spit and a Q tip.  However...damar dissolves in turp, and I'm just unsure how long I need to soak an area without eating into the painting itself.  I practiced today on a paintitng I don't care too much about, and it went well except for a massive headache...
