Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals

I may have finally found a ring display I'd like to share.  I make a lot of rings.  They are my cash cow at art shows and sell for $35.00.  They are nice little sterling wire wrap rings in a bunch of designs.  I don't want them to take up a lot of precious room in my booth and over the years I notice the folks love to dig around in the trays and find the perfect one.  This also creates interest in "what's going on in that booth" by people standing around digging for treasures.

Anyway, I went to Big Lots and found a bunch of small glass bowls with plastic lids.  So, I divided the rings up by design and filled nine bowls with the different designs.  Then I labeled each cover with a cutsy type name (like they do with OPI nail polish).  Now, the folks are grabbing the design they like, passing the bowls around and also getting to dig.  This is also nice for me for travel and keeping the rings from tarnishing.

This has also been quite successful at the spas.  I have the bowls at the mani/pedi stations at four of the spas in town.  Then the ladies can pick their design from the bowls while they are sitting in the pedi and mani chairs.

You may wonder about rip off?  It rarely happens and my philosophy is, if you feel comfortable wearing something you stole, go for it.

Hope this works for those do do volume rings.

What a great idea!!! Thanks for sharing!

I have a couple of wrapped ring designs that I put in a ring display case, but also have a couple of little cutesy ring designs that I put in a paua shell from New Zealand, and the customers seem to love going through the bunch, just as you experienced.  It helps that I'm usually able to make one on the spot if the customer just can't find one that fits in the bunch.  I just returned from one show that I know will be a runaway ring selling extravaganza twice a year every year!  Isn't it funny how one venue may sell more rings, another, bracelets, etc.?

Great idea! I don't make rings, but I always have some reasonably priced stretchy bracelets at shows where I know there'll be a lot of kids or teens. I found some ceramic "cereal bowls" at TJ Maxx for fall and winter and use local quahog (large clam) shells during warmer weather. Since they don't have lids, I just put the whole thing into a ziploc.

Hi Susan,

What a wonderful idea.  Thanks for sharing!
