Permalink Reply by Sharon Jeter on September 16, 2011 at 11:51am As a person who sits on both sides of the fence - as an artist and as a show organizer - I have to say that there are as many reasons one is accepted or rejected from a show as there are applicants. Though we all grump about the process its politics - and that may be the case sometimes - I think that is the exception. It is important, as an organizer, to keep your show fresh and interesting. In that vein, exhibitors must be changed up or cycled in and out. We want to keep the public interested in the show - we want to keep them coming back - so there has to constantly be a mix of the old and the new. As an artist - it IS difficult to plan. But that is just the nature of the profession. Nothing about this line of work is a "sure thing" as many posts and blog entries on this site will attest to. The one thing we can do when our customers complain is to give them a little info on the life of an artist and them steer them toward our webpage, Facebook page or etsy site. It is a good idea to get familiar with how to use these marketing tools and encourage our customers to do so as well.
I, too, am interested in others ideas on this subject.
