Thanks Carla!

I hope your festival goes well.  I have only been in two shows, both days it was humid and in the 90's.  I was really, really nervous.  I fuse like crazy too, but things seemed to be okay.

I have two paintings that are acrylic, mixed media, and those are the tree paintings.  The rest are all encaustic.  I am in the process of adding more mixed media along the copperwood forest line, and updating my website this weekend.  That is the part of the art business I don't like!

Good luck in Switzerland!  I was in Germany last summer and briefly crossed into Switzerland.  My gosh, it is so beautiful there, it took my breath away.

Lucky you, teaching there!

Hi Carla and Kimberly- Glad to have you join the encaustic group!!  I am at the Spoletto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina this weekend and man is it ever hot! Even though I fuse everything I'm still a bit worried about the heat- and no electricity-it would be nice to have a generator!! Oh well, I imagine everything will be OK- it always is.

I checked out your websites and Carla your sculptures are really wonderful and quirky- how are you using encaustic in them? And Kimberly, are your big pieces encaustic? Love your palette, sounds like you both are doing well at shows lately. I have about three more shows left before I pack it all away and move to Switzerland to teach. I can't wait to start a new body of work over there. Anyway- nice to have you in the encaustic group- marge

Hello!! We are glad to meet you! We have not yet started in the Art Fair world.... shopping around for panels first as most seem to require the booth photo for jury process.....

Hi Beverly, I use both but mostly my heat gun because the torch tales so long one big areas. The torch is especially good if your chasing paint as you can keep it molten longer on the board. I also use heated spatulas and an old iron that works well to unleash the layers under the top coat. Looks like your having fun! I am teaching encaustic at Arrowmont School of Crafts in Gatlinburg Tn. ( It's like Penland) the week of August 28th- come take my class!

Yes, I wall myself in my studio, too. I have decided to take the spring and summer off since I'm changing medium to encaustic and cold wax. My supply order should be here this week or next - medium was on backorder.  I've spent the time completely redoing my studio in a new setup for encaustic. Can't wait to get started. I've been playing around with the cold wax and oil, but after being used to the speed of acrylic, I can't wait for the immediacy of hot wax. By the way, do you use a torch or air gun?

Hey Verlie and Beverly, Just wondering where you will be in March? Are you doing any shows? Actually I'm just saying hi and that being in the studio all day is so isolating that I just had to do a call out- just to make sure I'm alive and breathing- I love being in the zone in my studio but sometimes two full days go by and I realize I haven't talked to anyone-you guys have that problem?

Hey Verlie, Your work is beautiful and I love the hidden figures and animals- very evocative. So glad you got on this website it will be nice to get a group that can communicate. I've worked with cold Dorland wax before (teaching) but can it really  look like encaustic? I have everything to try it -just haven't yet. Sorry about your neck- did that in 96' it miserable and a long recovery. Hope your on your feel better soon.

Woohoo Encaustic Artists! Yay us!:) Thanks for starting this group here:)! I have been working in encaustic for about 7 years now..have done few shows..because of the heat...I teach workshops in encaustic and also in cold wax and oils. Cold wax and oils are new to me but I love it! Just getting better from a herniated disc in my neck so am working carefully and slowly with encaustic. Am looking forward to learning and sharing here. You can see some of my work at www.verliemurphy.com! Noce to meet you and my thanks to kathleen Neff for letting me know:)!

Hi Beverly, I have done a good amount of Atlanta Shows too. I will be at the Dogwood festival this year and the American Craft Council Show too. I did Chastain Park last fall but don't know much about VAHI is it a good show? I heard that the same group that puts on Chastain Park is in charge of it. I did ok there but the weather sucked big time. I had a lot of sales to my website after the show which was a bit weird but it was too cold to stay and look so I guess that might have been it. I did the Midtown show last fall and it was really good except it rained the second day. I am doing really large pieces now, they are fun but extremely costly. Wax is so expensive and for a big piece it takes a ton. The cradles panels are expensive at the really large size too but I am using more wood and stretcher strips. I like the wax on wood but you have to gesso first with the encaustic gesso or everything looks really dark. It's so nice to talk to someone about this stuff.
