Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals
Hello everyone! I'm new to AFI! I see you have a great classified and communications from fellow artisans to help out! I have been doing tent shows a long time. Opened my own gift shop 9 months ago and doing ok (slow due to winter here in MI). After going to the Michigan Renaissance Festival in Holly, MI a couple times last year I discovered a product that NO ONE is selling! SOOOO, I decided to join the festival this year (Aug. 18th to Sept. 30th). Unfortunately, I cannot use my 10x10 EZUP and will have to purchase a "canvas renaissance style tent". Can anyone give me any pointers, etc. experience with type, etc. you may have had in the past and/or let me know of anyone that may be selling a used one? I've found them from 600+ (+ shipping) from India so far that seem to be the best deal so far. Thanks for your input - much appreciated!

Go to http://www.moirandalls.com/popup/index.htm for information on making a ez-up acceptable to Ren Faires. There is also information about constructing a booth. I had this man make my cover since I do not sew. My tent is the one with the purple and white cover.
Best of luck and enjoy vending at faire.
Very nice - what "man"? made yours? Have any contact information for me? Great idea instead of investing around $1,000.

Thank you very much for the reply. I'll certainly check him out, however, I'll have to write to the Michigan Renaissance Festival folks first to assure this is an avenue before investing! Seems the smarter thing to do for less expense! Thanks again.
The man is Randall Whitlock. He is the one who has the website that I listed. He usually does not make the toppers for the ez up's, but I asked him to as I have known him for quite some time. It is worth a try or have a local seamstress make it for you...
Received word yesterday from the fair coordinator that EZup's (decorated or not) are NO authorized so I guess I'll have to invest in a "better" tent for the show. It was certainly worth a try and I thank you for the contact information. I'll keep him on record as I see they do clothing, etc. too that's worth looking into - thanks again for your input! It's much appreciated. Magy!
Just an update to this discussion - the Michigan Renaissance Festival coordinator(s) do not allow EZup's (decorated or otherwise) soooooo my question is still - anyone know anyone that may have a renaissance tent for sale? Thanks once again - and looking forward to being a member of this site! Magy.
Permalink Reply by JFoley on May 1, 2012 at 4:50pm What your lookinig for is either a underhill pavilion or a panther primitive. Pricing starts at 3,000 without shipping, and dont forget you will also need a million dollar liability insurance policy. I have been selling my jewelry (chainmaille) there for over 30 years so good luck to you.
Permalink Reply by Jennifer Frantz on May 7, 2012 at 7:24am Glad to meet you. I did end up buying a round pavilion from Panter Primitives since I wasn't getting very far with most other avenues. Anyway I'm so very excited and looking so forward to doing the show. I do chainmaille as well but only two weaves (NOT selling at the festival though so your the only person I know now that does chainmaille). I'll have to catch up with you when we get there sometime. Have to let me know where you'll be setup - OR - if you have a permanent spot? I ended up doing what the Queen had recommended that they wanted so I'd appreciate your input since your've been doing the show for so long ok? I'm doing girdle belts (very nice ones if I might add), bodice jewelry, brooches (that can be used for hat pins or brooches), hat bands and chains of office. Do you see many men asking for them? Not sure where I'll be setup yet but planning on getting with April Cory around 10 days before the show to walk and see. Let me know where your at also. I've been to the faire plenty of times and just love it! Nice to meet you too - my name is Magy. Let me know what you think - my email direct is gladdenrun@yahoo.com if you want to write and send me some of your items. I have a store that I carry many different items - just opened one year ago 5-5! Doing fairly well but always better in the summer! I may want to display some of your items - we can exchanes pics. Looking forward to it!

Well thank you for responding - I ended up buying a new round pavilion from Panther Primitives (very costly), however, send me pictures anyway so I can advertise for you to other vendors ok? I can send them to the organizer of the Festival too - she may have other inquiries. Thanks again.
