Trailers

Hi,

I'm new here, but I have a questions about trailers.  I'm in the market to buy one and I  was wondering if I should get one on which the rear door opens into a ramp or one on which the rear door opens like a barn door.  Any suggestions?

  • Barn doors are easier to work with if you don't have anything heavy on wheels that needs a ramp. Takes less space when you're unloading and loading.

Ramp is better if you have heavy boxes on wheels that you can't lift or want to move a dolly-full into the trailer at a time.

For a small trailer, barn doors are nice, because the whole unit is a bit more compact. I had a Wells Cargo trailer 6x10 with barn doors. But the roofline was low, and I whacked my head on it at least once per show.

My current trailers have all had ramps, because I have several large rubber wheeled boxes that absolutely need the ramp. It needs another 8' behind the trailer to unload it. Barn doors take maybe 1/3 of that.
