Show fees

I am just getting back into shows full time after taking a 3 year hiatus.  I am finding it a struggle to come up with the booth fees for those shows that are requiring payment with the application.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how they handle this?

  • Show using ZAPP and JAS don't require booth fees until accepted. Years ago I made it a policy to never apply to a show that required a booth fee with the application. And every show I was considering but wouldn't apply to I let them know how I felt about it.

    • Larry,

I have to agree with you, however, there is a show, actually 3 shows that are excellent for me by the same promoter where that promoter is asking for fees almost a year in advance.  He juries you in the show almost immediately and then requires payment immediately.  If you don't pay immediately he does not guarantee that you will have a space...so that's 10 or 11 months of having your money tied up.  Is anyone else seeing this with other promoters?  This promoter also uses Zapp.  Can one postdate checks?

      • Does he use ZAPP IN ADDITION to taking applications another way? I have found a couple who do, whereupon I used the ZAPP route, to avoid sending the check upfront. If he really prefers cash in hand, I don't know what bearing that might have an acceptance, though.

I would ask about deposits. Perhaps more promotors do, though they don't advertise the fact.

      • If you're talking about Howard Alan, he also takes deposits. As for post dated checks, you need to ask the person you're sending the check to.

        • No Larry, not Howard Alan.  In fact I found Howard Alan most accomodating. Thank you!
