Question About Applying in Two Categories
I am a mixed media artist and I work with found object and recycled materials. Half of my work is accessories such as handbags and the other half is jewelry. I usually apply in two categories for most shows. Mixed media 3d for the accessories & jewelry for the jewelry. When the jury is looking at my booth image, they will see my entire body of work set up in one booth space. So when they are looking at my mixed media part of the application on zapp, they will see jewelry in the booth image, and when they are looking at the jewelry part of the application they will see handbags as well. Does anyone know if this is a problem? I usually type in under notes on the applicaation, "please note that I am applying in 2 categories as half of my work is jewelry, but fits into a cohesive line of recycled accessories". I have thought of this before, and am not sure what to do about it. It would be really difficult to set up the booth with just mixed media or just jewelry to take a photo for those categories because it would make the booth look half empty due to my custom hand built display.

You probably should have one booth for each medium and one combined booth for shows that don't care. That will eliminate any questions the jurors may have. I suggest contacting the shows you want to apply to and ask how they want you to handle it. Obviously you need two ZAPP profiles, one for each medium. Each would then get a single medium booth picture and the combined booth picture.

I probably won't be able to set up a booth shot of each category separately because I would have to invest too much money into display items that I won't ever use. If a show only let me in 1 category I would do a different show. My display looks really good and flows together nicely with my entire body of work. Don't the jurors for zapp hear the comments the artists typed in? I always say thay I have applied in 2 categories for 1 body of work. How closely are they scrutinizing the booth images? I have had two
zapp accounts for awhile but I always use the combined booth image for the 2 different categories.
It seems like zapp should have a button on all shows asking if you are applying in more than 1 category and if so, when the jurors review the applications it should put the artists 2 applications in a row and alert the jury that the next 2 are for 1 artists work. This would also help them weed out some of those who are applying in multiple categories using the same images over and over to increase their odds of getting in the show.

That has never happened. I once got waitlisted for 1 category and called the show about it. They said I could show both categories anyway. I wouldn't do a show unless they let me show the entire body of work. It really wouldn't work otherwise since half is jewelry and half is other. But most shows have been cordial about it because once they see it all together they see it makes sense. The main reason I am asking this is that I want to apply to a few new shows this year that are probably going to be more strict about this.

Yes but it is of my entire body of work which is technically 2 different categories. I have never set up my booth with only 1 category and don't think I ever would. So far it's working out good that way and I have been doing shows for about 3 years.
