Art Fair Insiders

Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals

How can fairs get away with this?  I've applied to 14 so far that just want the jury fee.  That's fair.  But the last 6 on my list all require both fees at the same time.  This just doesn't seem right.  They're tying up my money for months and I might not even want to do the fair when the time comes as I'm doubling up on a couple of weekends to up the odds of getting in.  Connie's advice is always to apply immediately, but when it comes to having to send a couple hundred dollars along I'm waiting until the last minute.

Last year, only one show took forever to send me a refund and I think it wasn't until after the show was over that I got it.  If I recall, I had been wait-listed and then took my name off the list with plenty of time for them to re-sell the space. (3 months before the show) The only other show I was not accepted to sent my original check back with my rejection letter.

Hi Patricia! We do live in an area with an abundance of smaller venue shows.  It suits me perfectly! I've not ventured in to the "big leagues" yet so I also don't mind paying the fees up front.  If I lose a booth fee it's just the cost of doing business.
