I am an Intarsia artist.  Intarsia, is a form of woodworking that produces a picture using different species of wood as the "Paint" to add color.  I have sold my art on-line, and to people that I meet and thru referrals from previous customers and fri3ends, and  I am seriously considering putting myself out there in the fair circuit to see how things go.

I realize that this is not an in-expensive endeavor, and as I understand that, I know that I risk my up front costs if things don't work out.  However, If I am going to do this, I am going to do it right, and as professionally as possible.  I am already looking at Pro panels and a Trim Line canopy, and have no problems going that route unless I find something  better.  From what I have read on this site over the past couple of weeks,  I think I am on the right track.

Unfortunately, I will only be doing one or two shows per year for the first few years, as I still work full time, and simply can not devote as much time in my shop as more shows would require.  No matter, but what I would like is opinions on what is the best way to go for me just beginning, and is my art worthy in your opinion, of the quality you would expect to see at a show?  I have visited local shows for the past several years and never have I see anyone selling the type of work I do, here in Michigan.

Thanks for your input and all the great advise that I have found thus far just be reading the various postings.  Below are just a couple of samples of my work.

  • Hello Lee and Welcome!  I'm just more or less starting out myself but I'd like to say "Hi" and invite you to check out all the great information to be found here for newbies and oldbies alike.  I think your work is beautiful and I wouldn't think you'd have any trouble finding a market for it.  Thanks for joining us and best of luck as you move forward.

  • Welcome!  Your work is beautiful.  My dad did intarsia at one time.  However life circumstances have changed and he does not do woodwork anymore.  He still has his shop but has ceased all operations.  :(

I am from the opposite end of the USA, Louisiana.  So I am not much help on shows in your area.  I mostly do shows within 2-3 hours of home.  However there are plenty of others who can help you out.
