Do you know how to build tent weights?  Can you provide me advice?  I have seen them made from heavy duty PVC pipe with a cap on one end and then filled with a cement mixture, and a hook in the top to strap or suspend the weight.  BUT, . . . I would like to use any knowledge you have on this topic before I plow ahead!

  • and, Rachel, for even more on this topic do a "search" for tent weights on this site ... you'll be overwhelmed with all the options.

  • I have a series of step by step photos of PVC weights I made. Email me at: sherersaddlesinc@outlet.com 301679323?profile=original

      • We made the pvc weights years ago- still use them.  The only thing that I would change is make 2 smaller ones for each corner as they would be lighter and easier to carry.

  • I have made and used several styles of tent weights including the cement filled pvc. The pvc filled with cement  is my least favorite. At 4" wide it has to be 36" long to weigh 40 lbs. You also need to install handles to carrying and a eye bolt at the top for support. However, they are the cheapest to make.

Another option is using dumbells. They are available in 5 lb incraments up to 100lbs each.  I have used the 40lb dumbells I ordered online from walmart for $27 each with free shipping to my home. All I did was tap a 1/4" thread in the top for support. They are 12" tall.301679205?profile=RESIZE_320x320

A third option if you want to use 4" diameter PVC is filling them with lead buckshot. I have a set that weighs 50lbs each and are only 17" tall.301680153?profile=RESIZE_320x320

    • Perfect

thank you so very much for the information -- extremely helpful and I will consider using the weights as an alternative.
