Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals

I always get a laugh when I have to choose the category for the medium. Here is the description for one of the shows.

METAL: Functional metalwork.

Now lets see what do they mean by functional----can I ride it, can I sit on it, can I play with it?

Or can it just be functional by being a piece of art?

I always thought functional meant that you could use it for more than just pure enjoyment (platters, mugs, bowls, teapots, furniture)  or was that a rhetorical question?

Geri, I kind of thought along your comment that it can be used for something.  But then if you call it sculpture and put in that category than it must be 3D. Now I have some 2.5D wall pieces so I could not call them sculptures.  If you really wanted to be technical than I should have to enter into more than one category because some of my work might be the vessels but they can not be functional nor are they sculptures.  I just enter the metal catagory usually and let them decide.

Yeah Holly they really are pretty brief in their descriptions for metals.  I guess they do not know what they are looking at any ways.
