Wanted to get advice from those who have gopayment accounts...

Do you like the service?

Do they charge you a PCI fee? (THEY told me they do not - just curious if true)

Do they charge a monthly gateway fee for wirless transactions?

Any other hidden fees?

They don't seem to have apps for many of the newest phones... most are old models... and some are not even sold anymore.

I want to get the bluetooth reader/ printer combo unit, but I am afraid that they won't keep up with supporting it. I usually upgrade to a new phone every two years or so and I would like to get a nice up-to-date phone rather than get some, soon to be discontinued, antique model just so it is on the compatibility list for the service.

1NB has a similar setup where you get a bluetooth reader/printer that works with a long list of current compatible smart phones. They seem to be keeping on top of the new technology.

The downside is:

The reader/printer that is compatible with a large list of phones is twice the $ of gopayment's.

They charge a PCI fee... $129.

They charge a gateway fee every month... $15.

That adds up to $200 more initial investment and about $300 more a year to operate.

Just wanted to know what others thought who have the gopayment service, and also any comments from those with 1NB services.

Thanks,

I just signed up with them - I'll let you know how it goes.

Love it!  Plus you can suspend during months you don't do shows.  Costs are quite a bit less if you also use Intuit for your website purchases.

I have been following this string and thought I would correct any misconceptions. (I am an Intuit employee)

Intuit GoPayment is our mobile payment solution. On Monday this week, we launched a new program. Free Card Reader and $0 monthly fee. A few things to know:

1. You do have to fill out a merchant application and this enables us to not set arbitrary daily limits. You can charge whatever you want

2.We just launched 17 new phones which includes iPhone 3/3GS and 4, iPad, and iPod Touch (3rd gen). We are also now available on the latest Android and Blackberry handsets.  Visit gopayment.com to see our list of supported handsets

3. We will definitely continue to support the bluetooth reader with printer. But if you just want to check out the service than you can get a free reader...this is compatible with a lot of newer handsets

Since we offer a $0 fee plan, if you don't use it, you won't get charged. No need to suspend your account.

The $0 fee plan also bumps the % rate you skim off of the top by a full percentage point though, right. Or, if I am correct, you can keep the lower % rate if you pay the $12 monthly fee.

One thing I would like to know, though, is if the list of phones supported by the free swiper is the same as the ones supported by the bluetooth swiper/printer.... including the newest phones.

Thanks

I've been using GoPayment about a year and love it. I have Verizon phone service, so haven't had a problem with reception. I have the Blue Bamboo card reader/printer and it is great. No problems and good customer service. I didn't know about the new plan, so I'm going to check that out. I am on the $12 month plan. I agree about the phone choice with Blue Bamboo. I just got a new phone and use a Blackberry, but love the phone so it is good. Glad they have added more android options. From my experience, I would recommend it. It was the best option I found at the time I was researching. No regrets.
What happens if you do a show and have no cell phone reception?

I don't know if you can swipe the card and store that info in the phone to transmit later or not... That would be convenient. If not, you could just write down the info and key it in later using the phone app.

I would like to know if there is a swipe and store feature as well...

I can help you with that one Chip. Intuit purposely did not design in a store and forward feature because they wanted to make sure that no cc info was stored in the phone. Eventually someone somewhere would figure out a way to access that and steal  cc numbers. I suggest to people to always take your old knucklebuster with you so you can hold onto the cc info and key it in later. Keep in mind that it is a 1% higher rate when you manually key in the number. I think that's standard on everybody's system.

Added note for no reception or prior to receipt of the swiper:  Make sure you obtain and retain the CCV code from the back of the card -- this is not obtained when using a knucklebuster.

Hi Charles

Out of curiousity, why would you want to store the information? You can view past transaction directly on the phone but per security the full number is not available.

I was hoping it would just keep the information temporarily, so that when a signal can be aquired later, it can send it out at the swipe rate rather than the keyed-in rate. Plus, I wouldn't have to write anything down. The info would be stored, sent later, then erased from memory. Simple

But, it doesn't look like that capability is available.
