Hi All,

I've been reading and following (and posting a little) since April but just now getting to the intro- sorry.

I got laid off 7 months ago and while job searching, took the opportunity to really get some works together. I'm a painter- acrylic is my medium of choice. With an amazing support system, I've taken the leap back into art fairs and shows after nearly 20 years of child-rearing, divorce, remarriage and all the dreary details of daily life.

I used to create original design stockings- each hand appliqued, embroidered and sequined. I'd work spring through fall to be ready for the Christmas season and sold a LOT of them! With the divorce, move, working full-time, raising my 2 kids, there just was no time left for creativity.

So as the kids got older, they and my family and friends kept urging me to start painting again. Truthfully, I really didn't think I could do it anymore, it had been SO long since I'd picked up a brush. That was several years ago and things took off from there.

I'm now working on establishing a career in art, though doing the art fair thing is not really the way I want to go. Gotta get my name out there, right? Plus hubby is getting a little worn out from working full time and then helping me cart all of my stuff on the weekends.

I spend a great deal of time researching sales techniques, business ideas and planning, and when sleeping puppies will allow, paint paint and paint.

You can check out my stuff at www.jendonald.com. Please let me know what you think!

All the best,
Jen

  • Hi Jennifer,

Welcome! I was slow on introducing myself as well. I LOVE your work. You are really talented! I also like how your grouped your work on your website into categories. I think the next time I update my hubbie's side I will consider doing the same. My husband is the artist (oil is his medium) and I work on the business side of things. (Accounting, show apps, website maintaince, marketing etc.) This is our first year of doing shows with the intent of him doing this full time. I totally understand you when you mentioned your husband helping you cart all of your stuff around. That's pretty much what I do as well.

This is a great site for tips and ideas. It has helped us tremendously. Good Luck to you. I am sure you will be successfull.
    • Hi April and thanks for the welcome! I'm glad you like my paintings and site. The site was a LOT of work, but well worth the effort. I continue to update and make changes to make it better and more interactive.

What is your husband's site? I'd love to check it out as well!

      All the best,
      Jen
      • Hi Jennifer,

His site is www.visionsbyrc.com. It's still a work in progress, but we're getting there.
        • Nice work! I remember seeing the Raggedy Ann pic before and loved it!
