I am so exasperated that I just had to share this.  This is the email that I just sent to a show director (who shall remain unnamed) regarding a show in Indiana:

Hi [Redacted],
I'm a little confused.  In 2013, you introduced yourself to me in Syracuse and told me you were  starting up the art show again in [Redacted].  I gave you my email at the time.
In 2014, I never got any information from you, so apparently I never got added to your mailing list.  I got an application for the show (probably at Winona Lake) and applied for it.  I never heard anything, so I called you.  You said my application got lost, but you thought maybe the juror(s) would let me in anyway, and you were going to ask them.  I never heard back from you.  I left a couple of messages, but since I never heard anything back, the only conclusion I could reach was that the juror(s) said it was too late and you apparently didn't want to call me with the bad news.
Now it's 2015.  I still am not on your list, and did not get any information on your show.  Except then I did get a last minute email, but when I looked at the application the deadline had already passed, so I did not apply for your show.
Today I happened to look at my bank account online, and to my surprise, the jury check that I wrote over a year ago just cleared the bank.
To the best of my knowledge, I was never juried for that show, so I don't know why you cashed that check.
Please explain what is going on.
Thanks,
Roxanne
Now I'm worried that she may cash the year old check for the booth fee!
I just called the bank to inquire why they cashed a check that was so old.  Apparently they contacted her bank and they agreed they shouldn't have cashed it so it is going to be reversed.
I think she is so disorganized and the show must be so disorganized, I don't know if I ever want to apply for it again!  I probably dodged a bullet last year when she lost my application.

  • And the saga continues.  A few days ago I received this interesting email:

Thank you for your submission to the 2015 Oakwood Fine Arts Festival.   The selection committee felt that your work exemplified the integrity and quality that is the basis for the Oakwood Fine Arts Festival and are pleased to announce that you have been selected to participate in the premiere return of this event. We are delighted to welcome you to our list of artists for 2015!  The festival will be held on Saturday, September 12 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. under the oaks at the beautiful Oakwood Resort.

We will soon announce this year's extraordinary lineup in news releases, website, social media and to our supporters.  We also ask that you also let your "fans" and supporters know that you will be participating.
I will be your point of contact for the festival, so please feel free to contact me with any of your questions.  My next email will have specific information in regards to times, set-up information, accommodations, etc. etc.  I just wanted to get this email out to you to let you know that you have been accepted and we are looking forward to your participation in the Oakwood Fine Arts Festival.
I apologize for the delay in sending you this email (our jury date unfortunately had to be delayed until a couple days ago).
PLEASE REPLY THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED THIS EMAIL!
That's pretty funny considering I didn't apply!  Apparently I must have finally been juried for the 2014 show!
    • Makes you wonder what exactly constitutes "jurying".  Maybe they ball up the applications into little wads the size of Bingo balls or Lottery number balls, load them in the hopper, FORGET to turn on the compressor that lifts the balls out of the hopper, then realize it isn't working at the last minute.

Then they dump all the wadded out application balls onto the floor and a few roll under furniture where they aren't found until years later?

From your descriptions, this is what I imagine.

      • LOL Regina!  That's a good question.  I suspect that things didn't go too well last year, so they probably didn't have enough applications this year.  So everyone probably got in, including my application from last year!

  • To answer your questions, the show is held at the Oakwood Resort in Syracuse, IN.  Apparently they used to have a pretty good show there.  The resort was under new ownership, and they were starting it up.  I applied for it once, in spite of the fact that she apparently lost my email.  That could happen to anyone, I supposed.   Once I applied, I followed up when I didn't hear anything.

I did get this response from her:

"We just realized that two applications from last year's show - were put in my mailbox at Oakwood earlier this month.  I have no idea where they have beenn all this time.  The problem was that I didn't realize they were from last year when I submitted them for deposit and one was yours and the other one didn't clear the bank.

I deeply apologize for this!  Are you interested and able to participate this year?  Or would you prefer a refund?"
Sounds like she must be having problems getting applications, because I think they were due a long  time ago.
    • This show is held not that far from me and on a beautiful lake that I haven't visited for a long time and had thought of attending. Will you be there, Roxanne?

      • No, Connie.  I think it has the potential to be a good show, but apparently it has major organizational problems.  So I think I'm going to pass until they get their ducks in a row.

  • First off, I will never chase a promoter in order to do their show. If they can't be professional enough to at least send me an app after saying they would, I'll do one follow up, and that's it. My life will go on without that promoter no matter how good the show is.

I just don't understand why it was so important for you to do business with this particular promoter that made you want to jump through hoops to get in.

    • Chris, I believe she applied after being solicited by the promoter.  She then heard nothing.  She is chasing her own money.  I personally do not let such things drop and will chase the promoter FOREVER to get my money back.

      • Really curious about WHO IS THIS SCUM BAG PROMOTER??????

        • I thought I knew which one it was, but where she says that the show was started up again rules out the one I thought it might be. The one I was in was through Entrythingy and a booth check was included with the app process.
