Has anyone been to Harding Art Show in Nashville? I joined up at Zapp and found it there. It is a little confusing to me. It sounds like you don't get a traditional 10x10. I would like more info on the booth situation if anyone knows. TIA

  • Laura,

I had read that, but forgot which show it was as I looked at quite a few. I remember now that I did not like the idea of paying a booth fee+such a commission. Plus if I don't have tables (or room for tables) I really won't have a way to display my product since it's 3-d functional art.
    • Some years back, when the American Artisan Fest was a commission show ( I think it was 20 or 25 percent) I was shocked the first year I did it to learn that the promoter also collected the TN sales tax on either the commission amount or the total amount of your sales. It turned into a very expensive proposition, tho I loved the show and it was always successful for me.

The founder and inspiration for the show, Nancy Saturn, very sadly passed away perhaps 4-5 years ago. She was a great lady and huge supporter of the arts, as was her husband, also gone too soon.

Hoping Samantha (Nancy's daughter) & Jerry Dale bring the show back in 2015!
  • I just went on Zapp to find out more about this show, as I know the area well, having done the American Artisan Festival in Nashville for a number of years.
Yes, unusual that they want 10 images; did you also notice that this is a commission show? If I read the guidelines correctly, the school retains a 30 percent commission on sales.
    Whoa! Food for thought!
  • It's nice to learn that Harding has put its show on zapp. I don't think they were on zapp until this year. I have been looking for a show happening in Nashville and it seems that Harding is now THE show to do in that city. We discussed it here on AFI at least six months ago and the show got good reviews. So it's the show to do. You might search the AFI site for Harding and see if you can find what was said about it.

Look at that. They want to see 10 images of work and no booth image. That's the first show of this type I've seen asking for so many images. I've certainly got the images and work, but that's twice as many as I've ever had to present to any arts & crafts type show.

I'm not going to be able to do it in 2015 since we have a schedule conflict. Plus the show asks for original art only and I'd be short-handed since the show would be the last one of my spring tour. I prefer to schedule original only shows at or toward the beginning of a tour.

BUT I WANT TO DO THIS SHOW! I have customers living in and very near Nashville that I'd like to see once again. And I think Harding is the show in which to do it. So I'm looking forward to 2016.

Good luck to you if you submit to and attend Harding. WOOHOO!

    • Thanks for your reply Barrie.  Yes, 10 images is a lot, more than we have had to submit.  I will look for more reviews here.  I did finally find some pics from past events and the way it's set up, it does not seem condusive to my product.  However, I will look again for other photos and for other events there.
