Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals

EntryThingy and ZAPP Images

Most shows using EntryThingy are asking for the ZAPP 1920 pixel square format.

You can't take your images from ZAPP for EntryThingy. Once your images have been uploaded to ZAPP, you only have access to 700 pixel square enlarged images, too small for EntryThingy and also too small to be edited and then uploaded again to ZAPP.

You must go back to the ZAPP images before they were uploaded. For years I've been warning artists that they needed their ZAPP images on CD from their photographer and hopefully they have them now that they are needed for non ZAPP use.

The reason for this post is because every day I'm getting calls or emails from artists who are trying to upload images that are too small for EntryThingy and don't know why because they took them from their ZAPP profile.

Ruth - EntryThingy does not have any requirements for the image file names - that's for the show to say if they want it that way.

Chris, do you have a "best policies" FAQ for the shows to guide them in what they choose?

Not really, Connie - there's a FAQ at http://www.entrythingy.com/faq.html that answers most questions... I think it's that there are shows that switch to digital but still need to keep parts of the old process in place...

Or I've thought that maybe they just copy old verbage from their previous years' applications.

OMG..That exact thing happened to me last week.   I grabbed the images off ZAPP and had the CD made.  I assumed they were the 1920 size that I had originally downloaded and did not check.  I was fortunate enough that  the show contacted me and I was able to resubmit the proper size.   This entire digital thing is one confusing process.  I suppose we all need to be way more computer literate.  And today I went to apply to a show...they want 800 as the size!  Anyway, I ended up making all new shots of new work which may be better or worse in getting into the summer shows...Time will tell.

Boston Mills made the same mistake a few years ago. They sent everyone to ZAPP to download their images to submit not realizing that the artists only have access to 700 pixel square images in their profiles, not the full 1920x1920's.
