Eastern Shore

Hi Everyone,

I was looking at the Eastern Shore event in Alabama.  I know I am too late for this year but I have a question.  It looks like the application deadline was exended to August 15?  I am wondering what the orignal deadline was?  I am trying to get a time line going in excell and I wanted to enter the orignal deadline so I don't miss it next year.  Thanks.

Oh, this IS the one that runs the same time as another one, right?

  • Hi Cynthia!

I just got an email saying that I got in to the Eastern Shore Art Center's Show that runs right with Fairhope's.  You cannot tell where one ends and the other begins.  I taught at Fairhope Intermediate School for the past 17 years and just retired.  I handcraft paper beads and create unique earrings, bracelets and necklaces.  I don't think it matters which one you get in.  We are thrilled!  They also have a wonderful festival a couple of miles up the road in the fall - Daphne Jubilee.  My earrings run $20, bracelets $35 - 75, necklaces $65 and up.  I just started doing bracelets and necklaces.  Just doing earrings alone - we average $800 - $1,000 per day at Daphne - we stay busy!  The Eastern Shore and Gulf Shores area are great for their shows.

Have you thought about the Peter Anderson Festival first weekend in November in Ocean Springs, MS?  It is wonderful.  Our first day we did $1800 and $700 on Sunday.  Gulf Shores Shrimp Festival is a great one, too!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    • Linda,

About Peter Anderson... I would like to.  My friend was there at the last show with pickles and pepper jelly and raved about it, saying I should go.  However next year my dh has a commitment here in our town that he cannot get out of.  It is a national event.  He is my grunt man and I just cannot do it without him.  So, maybe in 2016.  However on the other hand, I have a local event I have done the last two years on the same weekend as PA and have done quite well.  It is the one that I have written about before, Southdown Plantation Marketplace.  It is less than 5 minutes from my house and this fall it was our best show.

  • Thanks Barrie,,, that's what I was thinking too. you just never know...
Similiar to East Lansing, I did the "main" show and there was the show across the street on the University lawn. Some customers knew they were 2 different shows, but, most did not.
  • I don't know if showing in one will be better than showing in the other. I've only been in the Chamber show since it is the oldest and it has the reputation of being the better show for fine art. But it's true that you never know if the right customer will walk in front of your booth no matter where you are showing. Fairhope is crawling with thousands of people for these two shows.

  • The event in March is larger and harder to get into. With more fine art and some excellent crafters too. The one in October is smaller with some fine art and a lot of crafters. October ran at same time as Birder's and Boy Scouts convention s
    • Diane - Eastern Shore Art Center has their show the same time in March as Fairhope.  I applied last year to Fairhope's but didn't get in.  This year I applied to the Art Center and was accepted!!  I also just got in to a wonderful show the week before in Orange Beach - it is supposed to be a nice one.  Anyone here know anything about it?

      Thanks!

  • I see the two shows. Can anyone tell me the difference between them? One is sponsored by the Eastern Shore Art Center, the other by the Chamber and has been running longer. Is one better than the other?
  • I'm not sure you are looking at the right information. If you are talking about the March 20, 21, and 22 show, the early bird deadline is in September 30, 2014. And yes, there's another event happening adjacent to the Eastern Shore show, but I don't remember who sponsors it.
