Seeking opinions & discussion on the value of doing Fine Art Shows during Holiday / special event weekends. ie. Memorial day, Labor day, NYE, 4th, Superbowl etc.

Specific to the Fine Art as Crafts may be a bit different due to price points etc.

Pros:

1) Often 3 day event, therefore more sales time value to set up breakdown ratio

2) Possibly higher traffic flow, depending on location

3) many are off work hence relaxed and available

4)

Cons:

1) customers are already spending extra money on parties, travel, entertainment

2) Customer mind is on family, friends, special arrangements, special event.

3) depending on occasion, only one of the partners may be available

4) Art Fair may just be another form of entertainment NOT shopping event

5)

  • I do 3-day Memorial Day and Labor Day shows in Estes Park, Colorado, gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. All have been very good shows for me financially plus they are mini vacations for us too. I have written reviews for several years for those interested in the details. Indoor holiday shows for me were profitable but not that great and I don't do any today.

  • December/Holiday shows may bring in more people (a show during the super bowl?  Are you crazy?) but i think it is all about your price points.  In my experience most people do not shop for themselves at this time, so my higher price pieces don't get bought because people are not 'treating' themselves.  If you have low to moderate prices for things that are suitable for gifts, the higher attendance at shows (people in the mood to buy) may help you.
