Chances are that not many (or any) of you reading this have done this relatively new show produced by Amdur Productions. It is held in the historic Third Ward area of downtown Milwaukee, and this will be it's third year. I received an email a few days ago, not only reiterating the Saturday morning set-up, but further notifying artists that if you want to drive up to your booth at all, you have to arrive on-site sometime after 3 AM (yes! You read that right!!) in order to check in, then get to your assigned staging area, where you will be lined up in booth order. At 4 AM they let everyone in and you can park immediately in front of your booth. No one is let out to park until 9:15 AM, whereupon you park your vehicle, then head back to open up by 10 AM. Apparently, this is necessary because of the large numbers of people in town for the International Harley Davidson Convention. And there ARE going to be large numbers of people in town because a month ago it was nearly impossible to find lodging anywhere in the Milwaukee metro (thank goodness for Air-bnb!). Anyway, I can actually understand the need to get us in and going well before any street traffic wakes up to confound things, but 3 AM! I will be spending this entire week wrapping my brain around it. Apparently you can dolly in from the side streets at any time, or wait to see if they can fit you in at a later time, but no guarantees of getting in front of your booth. I am thinking I may set up completely, then spread out my Thermarest in my booth to have a little nap before moving my truck.

  • Got a clarification today. The super-early set-up time was mandated by the City of Milwaukee. The Harley convention has brought 500,000 people into town!! Apparently the usual set-up time for this show is Friday afternoon. Frankly, I am looking forward to having so many visitors in town.

    • Be sure to let us know how the show goes.  I live about 30 miles from Milwaukee and am not going anywhere near downtown this weekend. It's going to be a mess!

  • It sounds like she's trying to one-up Howard Alan for inconvenient load out times.

The planning does leave about 5 hours to set up, and is better than some of the asinine 2 hour set up times I've seen a few occasions =8-O
