I'm trying to get opinions from those who might have experience with these two venues. As they are both at the same weekend / time this year.
Looking from the standpoint of Fine Art Photography.
Columbus Arts Festival, Columbus, Ohio
Versus
Old Town Art Fair, Chicago, Illinois.

I have to decide which would be best for me.
Regardless of travel or geographic location.

Any insight would be welcome.

  • Hi Larry, I'm just seeing your post too... I will add my 2 cents as it may help you in the future. I live in Columbus and we go to the art festival every year (as a patron and potential future artist). It is a big event and attracts a lot of people (100K+). It's downtown and a big section of the city is blocked off. Artists are distributed over the area of a city block (square shape) over 2 bridges with connecting rows of tents as well. Weather always seems to be an issue, either really hot or heavy rain. It seems that the established artists do reasonably well but I would say it's easy to get 'lost' in the mix if you don't get a prime location. There is vendor parking but I saw a vendor push his dolly a pretty long way during the show to get to his booth (.25-.5 mile?) My wife and two young girls walk 1-2 main sections and stop at the fountain area. I then try to walk the whole show. From my research, I think the show isn't what it used to be, but still a solid show. Although I haven't been to Old Town, the posts I've read would lead me to believe it's currently one of the best shows in the country.

  • So sorry I am just now seeing this. First choice for me is Old Town. You won't see as many people, but the affluence of the area and the reputation brings serious buyers to attend. Also, because it is only two days your expenses will be lower, adding to a better net. I believe I am too late to help you for this year though ...

    • Connie, thank you for the effort. I do find it seems to take a long time to get responses :-)
I hope your march went well.
FAR MORE attended the march than the inauguration.
I'm happy you and others were able to make a statement.
One of the nice thing about artists... we have something to say.
      Say it LOUD.
