Im looking for a couple shows in the South for this summer. I do 2D mixed media.. pretty much realism.. Most pieces are large.. 30x40 and larger..

I am considering Hilton Head (Howard Alan) and another I know nothing about..Brookgreen Gardens Pawleys Island, South Carolina

I appreciate any experiences you all have had and are willing to share.

Thanks

Tim

  • Tim, I live in SC also.  The Brookgreen Show although is has been ongoing now for more than a decade but oddly I had not heard of it until a few years ago.  I started doing shows in the late nineties. Artists had recommended to me to check out a show Called Atalaya held at Huntington Beach State Park just across the street from Brookgreen.    This fair is well attended and tries to keep the quality up. The buyers are mostly retired folks with homes in the area and are looking for items that speak to old south and coastal living. They also support some local artists who attend the show regularly.    I used to do the show when I had a lot of realism,(I am a painter) and did fairly well.  Since Brookgreen is so close to this show I would expect some of the same cliental.   Both shows charge an entrance fee.

  • Tim, I live in SC about 2 hours from Pawley's Island SC. I think the Hilton Head show had to be applied earlier this year-I got in-heard mixed reviews from some artist. It is a good show to get started for the season.

I haven't heard of the Brook Green Garden show. I do know it is a stunning venue and if promoted properly could be a fantastic show. Again you are in the land of Tshirts and sand. Fine art in Myrtle Beach has been tepid.

    • Thinks for your reply.. The Hilton head ( Howard Alan) is still available to apply.. I did.. We'll see. I appreciate your input and maybe see you at the show! Thanks!
